Default Worst Draft scenario?

This is kind of the opposite of what you normally do.
Guess what would be the worst case scenario draft for the Pats on the first day.
Restriction - you need to pick players that project to that general range to make it realistic.

That list should help you out.

For me it would be this:

1st. Kenny Phillips. S. He looked terrible in the combine, and his last year in college wasn't all that impressive either. We eventually need a safety to replace Rodney, but I don't think this is the guy. Not in Round 1 anyways.

2nd. Martin Rucker. TE. Ugh another early round TE. I'm pretty sure we're going to draft a TE like we usually do, but hopefully it will be later rather than earlier.

3rd. Justin King. CB. Not a horrible pick. But all I know about him is that he's fast. I'd rather address corner earlier in the draft.

3rd. Dexter Jackson. WR. Could make for a good return man. But drafting a receiver would be a sign that either Randy Moss is gone, or the Pats don't think Chad Jackson is going to turn it around. Neither would be good news.

Ok that's my nightmare draft. How about yours?

Round 1, pick No. 6 (Thru NYJ) - New England selects Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU,
New England trades NT Vincent Wilfork to NYJ

Round 1, pick No. 7 - *Forfieted pick* (NE loses pick in ruling by NFL commissioner for illegal taping of Rams walkthrough prior to 2001 Super Bowl).

Round 1, pick No. 32 - *Forfieted pick* (spy gate)

Round 2 *Forfieted pick* (NE loses pick in ruling by NFL commissioner for illegal taping of Rams walkthrough prior to 2001 Super Bowl).

Round 3a New England selects John David Booty QB, USC

Round 3b *Forfieted pick* (NE loses pick in ruling by NFL commissioner for illegal taping of Rams walkthrough prior to 2001 Super Bowl).

worse case: Neither Ryan, McFadden, or Dorsey slides to #7 to give trade-down possibilities, the Longs and Ghoulston are taken,

then at #7 we can't trade down for somebody dying for a good player we don't need (Ryan, McFaden, Dorsey) and we can't take the guy who seems to be the best fit (Ghoulston),

and we decide to take a cornerback, which has a pretty high bust-rate and often a long learning curve.

second round:

worst case is we don't get a LB in either round. Can't see that, but if the value isn't there I guess it's possible.

Why would taking Jackson to be the #5 WR (with Moss, Welker, C. Jackson and Washington ahead of himm) be a sign that either Moss is gone or that C. Jackson isn't going to turn it around? Not that he has anything to turn around since he was recovering from an ACL injury last year.

Picking up Jackson to be a kick/punt returner as well as a slot receiver behind Welker adds to the versatility of the offense and give the Pats more options at Kick Returning and punt returning instead of relying on Hobbs, Maroney and Welker.
