Mainly looking at a guy like Art Carmody out of Louisville.
Extremely accurate, consistent, and decent length.

Just wondering where a guy like that would project at, and if the Pats would be in the market for a kicker considering the lack of work Gostowski got near the end of the year.

There's very little chance they draft a kicker, Gostkowski has been at worst above average. But, they typically go in the 4th-5th, for good kickers/punters.

I don't want to draft another kicker but we have to have the confidence to kick a 48 yarder in a dome in a close game in the Super Bowl . . . on 4th and *****ing 13.

The vast majority of PKs go undrafted, unless you're the Oakland Raiders...or the NEP, who could have drafted Gostkowski with one of their 3(!) 6th-round picks in '06; instead, they use one of their 2 4th-round picks. The other 4th-rounder was used for: Garrett Mills. Can you say "Double Overdrafting"?

The guy we should target during the second day is P Durant Brooks, UGA. Chris Hanson should stick to catching predators on Dateline.

That's not quite correct; on average, there are 2-3 kickers drafted each year, and probably about 4-6 roster spots available for kickers leaguewide.

Also, I'm fairly sure that there was a report on this board that someone else was interested in drafting Gostkowski in the fifth round, although I admit I might be wrong.

(A) I wouldn't call 84% "extremely accurate" (Gostkowski is 82% in the regular season, and even higher in the playoffs).
(B) He's also smaller than Wes Welker, which isn't really an advantage.

You really should stick to watching Dateline instead of posting. The Pats punting was very good this year. They averaged only 5.357 yards per return (2nd in the league) and had the 2nd fewest punts returned by percentage (31.8). While their gross was only 41.9 (26th), their net was 39.7 (10th). The only thing that Hanson could have done better is less touchbacks.

But, hey, if you want to believe that the Patriots are going to bring in a rookie punter whose proven nothing to kick over Hanson go right ahead.

You really should know what you are talking about before you post.

1) Gostkowski was 21 for 24 this year. That's 87.5%. Yeah, its only 82% if you count his rookie year. But it was his rookie year. How about you look at what Adam did his rookie year. Gostkowski is 9/10 on his career in the post-season, but only 1/2 this year.

I can't say why BB didn't use him on 4th and 13. Maybe it had something to do with the humidity in the stadium. Maybe it was something else.

2) Gostkowski is 6'1 and 212 lbs. Welker is 5'8 3/4 and 195 lbs. How is that being SMALLER?

Ummm . . . you need to be a little less hostile, DaBruinz.

1) Nothing I said was wrong. I was using Gostkowski's career NFL average, which seems a perfectly reasonable point for comparison.
2) I was talking about Carmody, who is 5'8", 165. Given that I have Gostkowski in my sig and Welker in my avatar, I would hope that I know that Welker is not bigger than Gostkowski.
