I've been looking at a bunch of these mock drafts and I think that the Falcons are the wild card to how the draft shakes out.
Most sites and people agree that the pre-combine top 5 in no particular order shake out as:
Chris Long
Glen Dorsey
Darren McFadden
Jake Long
Matt Ryan
Considering their FO's history with the Pats I think it is likely that they will become trading partners with Dallas, assuming Dallas (read Jerry Jones) is in love with McFadden as people think.
Atlanta is more than 1 player away and they are in cap trouble because of the Vick situation. My understanding is that they will not receive a credit to their cap for his signing bonus until they actually recover it from Vick and Vick' s lawyers will make tha a long process. (If I am wrong please feel free to correct me.)
Most people think Al is also in love with McFadden. This leaves him holding the bag (couldn't happen to a nicer guy). He won't take Ryan
This scenario leaves Ryan as the annual slider. I doubt any of teams ahead of us will take Ryan, except for the Jets. Clemens and Pennington are not the answer. This means that the DL and LB prospects that fit both the Jets and Patriots system are still available at #7. If the Jets do not take Ryan I think there could be a bidding war for our pick by teams like the Bucs, Bears, and Vike who all need a QB to jump ahead of the Ravens who need a QB also.
The Pats trade back and take a CB or LB/DE in the middle of round one, pick up another pick one the first day or a day one pick next year.
Of course this is all frought with speculation and assumptions, but hey it's a slow football day
Thoughts?

The Jets aren't taking a qb. No qb would be the answer behind our horrible offensive line. Mcfaddden could make it to 6/7 if the top 5 has Dorsey/Long/Long/Ellis/Ryan. I'm hoping that Ryan and Mcfadden go in the top 5 so that one of those lineman slips to the Jets.

McFadden is going to be gone in the top 5. If Dallas doesn't trade up the Raiders will take him.
Who do you think ahead of the Jets will take a QB ahead of the Jets?
You can make an argument for every team , but I think all of the top 5 teams in the draft have greater needs at other positions.

The Chiefs need a 'QB of the future' in the worst way. Their fan base needs to be excited about something, drafting an OL or a DL is not 'sexy'. Of course this is only my speculation - but the Chiefs pick is also for sale to pick up more picks in the 1st/2nd rounds because of all of their needs. They are more than 1 pick away from contending.
We could have the DL going 1-2-3. I'm hoping some of the offensive talent goes before our pick. But, there's a chance it doesn't.
1. Miami - C.Long (Nobody willing to trade up. Surest shot on board.)
2. ST.L - G.Dorsey (Could take J.Long. But, they do have Pace coming back.)
3. Oak - S.Ellils (Don't forget Sapp retired. They have a qb. Fargas is decent. And, can still get a good rb at the top of Round 2)
4. KC - J.Long (Publicly saying they won't go qb. I wonder though)
5. Atl - M.Ryan or D.McFadden. I'll say M.Ryan
6. NYJ - Jesters make the deal with Dallas. M.Barber and pick from Cleve.)
Dallas takes D.Mac.
7. NE - V.Gholston,A.Talib,R.Clady,L.McKelvin. I'll say Gholston.

With the Sr. Bowl taking place, a couple of players have already moved up. Next will be the meat market in Indy, which will really increase some players value. Having said that, I'm thinking we are moving down in the draft. All we need is for some owner to start drooling over a player still on the board at #7.

There are a couple of possibilities. If Oakland doesn't take S.Ellis and goes for McFadden. I could see him on the board at 7. I think the Chiefs need offense and don't think he's quite the ideal fit for ng. So, I don't think the Jets take him. Pretty sure Cincy would take him at 9. So, a team picking behind Cincy might want to deal up for him. Big gap between him and next best dt. P.Sims or K.Balmer?? Of course, M.Ryan and D.McFadden could command interest too.
Ellis just blew up the Senior bowl, totally unblockable. Further, Mayock and others are looking at him now as a NT not just a DT so he now FITS Miami's new 3-4. My thought is that if nothing changes in the workouts, Miami takes Ellis #1, which now drops some guys down.... ATL now may be tempted to pass on Ryan and get either Long or Dorsey. Ellis will not make it past OAK, he is the perfect Sapp replacement. KC is the wild card, if they want a OL they can trade back 4-9 and not lose their guy. I think the Cowboys are going to pay attention to the order and have a deal in place should DMC get to KC. While we wont get any more utility from any of the dropping players, the prospect of the top QB being there at 7(and knowing Baltimore is interested at 8)would make a trade down a very real possibility. CBs are rising and falling, but I would look for us to take a OL and a CB in the first 2 rounds.
The trade scenarios I now like are to trade #7 to Miami or ATL for this years #2 and next years #1.....
