Default Running Back Prospects

I have them ranked:

1. Mark Ingram
2. Ryan Williams
3. Mikel LeShoure
4. Daniel Thomas
5. Kendall Hunter
6. Shane Vereen
7. DeMarco Murray
8. Jordan Toddman
9. Derrick Locke
10. Darren Evans

I think it's safe to assume the top three will be gone in th first and second but I could see the Patriots going for another back in the third. Daniel Thomas is probably the best option, he may go on the second round but could slip to the third. Shane Vereen is the name you're here the most in connection with the Patriots but I think Kendall Hunter and DeMarco Murray would both be solid as well.

Im hoping for Ingram in the 1st but i like Hunter as well. I also like Mario Fannin for the Pats. Hes a bigger back that ran well at the combine.

The biggest value for RBs is in the mid rounds and I am liking the value I see there:
Roy Helu, Jr.
Mario Fannin
DeMarco Murray
Jordan Todman

All these guys could contribute as a early down back right away.

Even late rounders have some good potential:
Brandon Saine
Da’Rel Scott

I'd like Murray or Todman at 60 or 74.

And then take Da'Rel Scott late on. See what he's got in Camp.

I think Locke is one of the best all-around RB talents in the draft, you just can't ask a 188-lb guy to be a lead back. But IMO carrying 2 Danny Woodheads isn't a bad idea at all.

At the other end of the spectrum, I'm eager to get an injury update on Stanley Havili. I like the idea of a versatile RB/FB/HB who can line up unpredictably.

I like Helu as 7th-udfa. Fannin too. Saine too. Da'Rel Scott couldn't pass block a blitzing cornerback if his next meal depended on it, so he won't be coming to Foxboro.

I'm still trumpeting Delone Carter or Shane Vereen starting in the mid-third round.

Delone carter would be good except he beat an innocent student into a concussion because someone threw a snowball at his car.

Allen Bradford has great size and an impressive ypc average...never mentioned as a top drawer back though for some reason.

I like Daniel Thomas, Kendall Hunter and Shane Vereen as do-it-all runningbacks. Jordan Todman is also an intriguing runner, but he wasn't used as a receiver at all in UConn offense. He showed decent hands for a runningback at the ESPN Skills Competition and the NFL Scouting Combine though.

DeMarco Murray is intriguing because of his speed and receiving ability. He can also return kicks. His size is also pretty good, but you would expect him to be a better inside runner at 6-0, 213.

I'm not a big fan of Jamie Harper. He is a big guy at 5-11, 230, but he runs like a scatback. His running style always drove me crazy and his Clemson teammate and fellow runningback Andre Ellington is a much better inside runner at 5-11, 190. Harper has really good hands though.
