Default Curtis Marsh

Ironically, it was just this weekend that I included Curtis Marsh in my Mock Draft Version #105 that I shared with Brother Mayo.

I have, of course, been of the opinion that we don't have an overwhelming need at Corner, having Devin McCourty and Leigh Bodden aboard, as well as substantial Depth of Talent behind them...

But I've also always been of the opinion that there are excellent Talents who look to be available in the latter rounds. Specifically, I was looking to go thusly:

4th Round ~ Curtis Marsh
6th Round ~ Ryan Jones
7th Round ~ Josh Thomas

I would LOVE to haul in all 3 of these guys!!

Of course, the Market will change, between now and then. Hell, I wanted Phil Taylor in the 4th Round, months ago, and would still take him at #28. And while Willie Smith is projected for the 6th Round right now, and I would LOVE to get him, there, chances are good that he soars all the way to the 2nd or 3rd...at which point I would STILL love to get him!!

I'm simply not good enough at reading tape to trust my own observations. My methodology has always been to evaluate the evaluators, whose talents, frankly, DWARF mine. As such, it was particularly exciting to see none other than Wes Bunting of National FootBall Post write up Curtis Marsh, this very day:

Shows how bad the cb class is when a running back conversion project is the 5th best college has to offer.

Don't get snow balled into believing that Phil Taylor is the next Ngata. Just because he has size does not make him the next big NT. Ngata has more athletism in his pinky than Taylor will ever have. There is a reason why Ngata was picked early in the draft and that is because the talent was evident from the day he stepped onto the football field. You are right. Taylor was a 4th rounder 2 months ago. Now all of a sudden I see him breaking into the bottom of the 1st? No thanks. If I'm going to take a chance on a nose tackle of the caliber that are in this draft, I'm going to wait and take my chances on Powe or Ellis in the 4th or 5th. Atleast your not blowing a 1st round pick if they don't work out.

Willie Smith is a freak. His athletism has no limits it seems. There is no way he lasts to the 6th,especially after the combine he will produce. Probably one of the more raw talents in this draft. I can see someone going with a 4th or 5th for him. Myself, I'm liking on the Barksdale kid. He's got incredible size and raw skill to play every position on the line and I could see him as the Pats RT with some coaching up from Dantes peak.

I'd add Justin Rogers - 6th Round - to your list

Ahmad Black is listed as SS, but clearly projects more as a CB in the NFL, I'd say probably a slot corner. Probably a 3rd-rounder. The Pats have already interviewed him once (at the Senior Bowl).

Yeah, I don't quite put Taylor at Ngata's level...But I think he commands exceptional athleticism for a guy his size, as does Ellis. In my Mock, sent out to Mayo, but not quite ready for publication, I draft BOTH of those guys.

Imagine:

~ Phil Taylor
~ Vince Wilfork
~ Kenrick Ellis

A Rolling Wall of DEATH, gentlemen!!

I certainly like your ideas, regarding Powe and Barksdale, particularly Powe, who's evolving from Bloating + OverRated towards a possible Bargain!!

Ah!! Rogers!! Excellent idea...

Brother Mayo has also brought up Richard Sherman, in that vein...

LOVE Ahmad Black!! I must admit I hadn't considered him as a Corner, but the idea is an awfully intriguing one...I didn't know we'd already interviewed him. Did you know that Brother Bunting actually specifically suggested that we'd be an optimum destination for'm, on the CowBoys Site?
