Default BCS title quick postgame thoughts

Not passing any final judgments here...

Laurinitis: nothing special. At all. showed no leadership or energy. Likes to run around tackles, and walk to the edge of the pile after Ryan Grant makes a tackle. A very weak performance. Should probably stay in school. Right now I'd say rd 3 talent, but I wouldn't want him. Somehow credited with 18 invisible tackles.

#6 LB Grant: next to Jenkins, had maybe the best game by an OSU defender. Physical and plays with passion.

Gholston: powerful. looks more like a 4-3 DE. Not as dynamic in space as C. Long. Sometimes doesn;t play to the whistle, strange for a national title game. Going to withhold judgment until after the combine. Has a bit of Lamar Woodley, which means IMO a 4-3 DE and not a 3-4 OLB. Right now looks to me like a late 1st rd grade. The combine will tell the story. If he blows it up, then he could skyrocket, but I do doubt whether his agility scores will be elite. No question has NFL strength.

cb Malcolm Jenkins: a dynamic talent. Should test throught the roof. Wow. Could be an elite player. 1st rdr.

Matt Flynn: looks like John Kitna, but plays a smarter game. Could be a solid efficient NFL QB in time. Rd 3.

Early Doucet: Reggie Wayne talent. Rd 1.

Glenn Dorsey: Reminds me of Dan Klecko. Short, good college career, not big enought to dominate in the NFL. Is he even 6' tall? rd 3.

Tyson Jackson legit 1st round talent at 3-4 DE. Wow is this kid a 2 gap monster. Wouldn't mind at all if the Pats picked him up.

#33. Terrible. He cant shed blocks..like stated, doesnt show emotions on the field (when your the "man" in the D..i wanna see you scream and make plays). He looked lost in coverage. Very poor performance

Jenkins. He got stiff armed once while somewhat off balance as it was and let a catch over his arms in endzone when he was playing Safety. Other than that..he kept his man in check, made a pick, made some good tackles. Shows emotion, appears to be a leader.

Gholston. He was doubled but he did beat it quiet a few times. He played the options properly when run at him..had a nice bullrush early. I think he had a good overall game.

LSU

Dorsey played well. He got doubled constantly but hes very quick. Id like to see him develop some more pass rush moves because he looked like a 1 trick pony with his pass rushes but hes no doubt a top 10 pick, fast/quick and a leader on that line

Chevis Jackson. Hes physical and was stride for stride on many plays with WRs. Got a pick while running next to WR. He had a very good showing despite being embarrased early by Wells on a nasty stiff arm that sent him flying(to his credit..he rolled over and dove at him . good effort). His stock depends on how he runs. 2nd rounder as of now.

btw. Dorsey is over 6"0..hes 6'2ish. I dont think hed be a 3-4 NT for us because he wouldnt be as valuable but maybe little short for a 3-4 DE who are generally Very big

I only witnessed Gholston putting pressure on the QB maybe 3 times max. He didn't get to him fast enough for the most part, and considering he was basically just rushing the passer on every play, you'd expect to see him getting more pressure (if he's supposed to go 7th overall). Really, he looks like a 1 gap 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE, and I question his ability in pass coverage. This is what I've bee saying all year though.

James did get cought out of position in coverage a number of times, and I'd really like to know what he was thinking in those instances considering they burned him with the same play more than once.

You mentioned Chevis, and I also thought Zenon made some plays.

Now, don't you feel somewhat folish for saying OSU was going to win?

I thought that the best Ohio ST defender last night was Ironhead's kid Heyward, and he is a true freshman.

I like ALi Highsmith the LSU OLB.

And Jacob Hester would be a termendous upgrade on Heath Evans.

I like Hester and really like his toughness. He can also catch very well (remember that long grab he made on the run against Arkansas?). I actually thought LSU would use him in the passing game a little more last night as I thought it was an advantage, but I can see how they wanted to use his blocking ability as well.

I actually thought Larry Grant (OSU LB wearing #6) made some plays. He's got very good height (6'3"), but he's a little light in the pants (only 226lbs). He did seem to have coverage ability, so maybe he could be a decent SS conversion?

Oops. I actually meant Larry grant, not "Ryan" in my other post. He;'s listed at 6'1'' 232 in draftscout, which seems more likely looking at him than 6'3'' 226. Seems like a pure 4-3 LB. Really liked his grit, physcial play and emotion. Played much better than his more heralded compadre. Actually fought through a block to make a tackle, only OSU LB to do that all night.

Chevis to me would do poorly against WRs that make a good first move. He has a good straight away speed as shown by his INT, but put him in the slot and he would like molasses.

Say what? He's bigger than LaRoi Glover or Tommie Harris and is extremely disruptive. He's a top 5 pick, and with the right coaching/system, could be a perennial all-pro.

I have reservations, and I'm looking forward to his weigh in at the senior bowl/combine. He's listed at 6'2'' 316, but I read a report that he's more like 6'1'' and played in the 290s.
