You asked for it, you got it:

Transfered to Iowa State from Minnesota where he actually played on the D-line. He has the size that the PAtriots look for in their O-line and also has the mindset they like as well.

Plays with a high motor and through injuries. One of those guys that knocks down a guy and then finds someone else to hit. Has a real nasty streak, but in a good way, loves to hit people. Played some guard his sophmore year before moving to center where he was first team all big 12 two years in a row. The only guy on the Iowa State line that belonged on the field, when he had better players around him, he could really dominate. Did all the long snapping for Iowa state since his sophmore year, so that gives him even more versatility.

Has had some injuries to his legs but nothing serious to the point of needing surgery. Was overmatched at times mainly because he had no help around him. Will need to work on his run blocking and leverage, but from what I see on tape is that the talent around him put him into bad situations. To me he has all the same qualities that we all like in Dan Koppen and could be had about the same time in the draft. Once again if you look at Iowa States offensive numbers you would think they had zero talent on the O-line and that is almost the truth. IF I had to guess, stephenson will go late 5th to 6th round and will make whatever team that takes him look like a geneous.

Hope this is useful to any and all who read it. I know these guys are not the sexy 1st rounders that we have all come to know, but sometimes it is nice to have info on some of the lesser known guys who can make a teams draft be great.

Thanx for the input. It takes a while to learn about all the players available in the draft and who the Pats may have interest in.

As Pats fans we have become accustomed to not disregarding any player the Pats draft as they have a history of finding late keepers.

Some people thought drafting a QB who never started a game in college was a wasted pick, but of course, he has been a valuable member of the Pats. Dan Koppen, David Givens, and some guy named Brady were also relatively successful.

What position would he play, then? Or is he just fodder for the Scarnecchia College for Offensive Linemen?

I see him playing Center, that is where the majority of his playing time has been and where he has had success. I think in a pinch he could play guard and long snapper

For a late round/UDFA O-lineman Scarnecchia U School of Business would be a good thing. I think there is an opening considering Barthelmes is going to Europe which means he wasn't considered to be valuable enough to keep here for the off-season conditioning and training sessions.
