Default Calvin Johnson anyone?

Cut The Cord Lions, Trade Calvin Johnson - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

"That last suggestion is a Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp brainchild. Sharp contends Detroit should send Johnson to a team in need of a big-play wideout in exchange for several early-round draft picks that “could help the Lions address their No. 1 problem — a cavernous void of talent.”

Anyone know a team that has extra early round picks and may be in the market for a WR?

Personally I would trade a 1st and a 3rd for Johnson, draft picks are overrated.

Read that yesterday ... almost posted it and it's not happening. Belichick allots certain amounts of the cap per unit and Moss and Welker will still be here so it's not happening. Someone will eventually replace Randy but no high priced player will be added to that unit until then.

As much as I like Calvin Johnson, their early draft picks need to be spent on defense - particularly OLB. This team will never win another super bowl without a pass rush.

Unless BB is willing to launch O'Brien at the end of the season, anything we add on offense is a waste because our current offense is "creatively challenged".

BB where is the love for Wiess??????????

Plus we would all hate for the Aiken at WR era to end... Johnson, Moss and Welker... certainly some matchup advantages could be had even by a JV OC.

I don't see them carrying both Moss and Johnson, it would simply cost too much money that would be better spent 1) on better O-linemen 2) a better running game, or 3) on defense.

I don't know how many more productive years Moss has left in him, and Johnson is relatively young, so maybe we'll get him a bit down the line after Moss is gone.

What do you guys think about picking up Dominik Hixon? He seems to do pretty well with Eli throwing to him, with Brady & Co. he might be pretty damn good, and he's a very good kick returner.

If 2010 is uncapped, you can have both of them for year. Moss' deal expires after 2010 so you let him walk and thank him for what he's done. Calvin receives a year working in the offense learning from Moss and developing chemistry with Brady. In 2011, Calvin becomes #1 WR, we still have Welker and Tate. Maybe we add a mid-round WR guy or Edelman/Stanback become a big part of the offense.

If we can complete a trade for Calvin without giving up the 2011 first of the Raiders, we can use that pick on a guy like Patrick Peterson the CB from LSU who I see as the next Darrelle Revis rather than on a WR like AJ Green, Julio Jones, Michael Floyd or Jonathan Baldwin.

Maybe the Lions would bite on a deal involving the Patriots 2011 first, and a couple of players like Thomas, who will be an improvement to their team, but surpluss to requirements in New England, as well as what would probably have to be 2 of this years 2nd round picks, so something like:

Thomas
2010 2nd
2010 2nd
2011 first (Patriots)

Or even:
Thomas
2010 first (then use the 2nd round picks to get back into the first if needed)
2011 first (Patriots)

Someone on here who knows a bit more about trades etc will probably shoot these idea down, or add to it because it might be a bit bare in relation to how good Johnson is.

Either way with them trades the Patriots gain one of the best WR's in the league and what will probably be a high pick in 2011 to get a shutdown corner.

That's an awful lot to give up, even for Calvin Johnson. I'm not sure I would give up more than a 2010 2nd, 2011 1st (our own, not Oakland's) and a player like AD, James Sanders, or Nick Kaczur. And I'd need to be pretty sure we could sign him to a long term deal.

Moss, Johnson and Welker would admitted be very sweet.

He is signed through 2012, assuming he doesn't have any player-voidable years.
