How Much Is Everret Brown Worth?
How much is Everret Brown worth to the pats?
Consider what Mayo would be worth to us if the needs were the same for last year. Is it possible that Brown projects as well to Belichick?
===================================
To me, it is clear that we should be willing to move up and use two picks for the right player, in the 1st, in the 2nd or in the 3rd. I suspect that Everett Brown is such a player. It would cost one pick to move up. How high would you be willing to go?

Re: How Much Is Everret Brown Worth?
#23, but only if a certain other 3-4 OLB prospect is not available.

I hope you are joking...... If you would honestly take Barwin over Evertte Brown I am dissapointed. I hope the Bills think like you and take Barwin at 11 and we take Everette Brown at #23. Is Barwin your son?

Mayock would be proud. Now Barwin is a better prospect than Everett Brown?

No, I'm not joking. I'm just being consistent.
I've said repeatedly that Barwin is my favorite 3-4 OLB prospect since David Pollack and DeMarcus Ware in 2005. I like him better than Manny Lawson, Bobby Carpenter and Chad Greenway in 2006. I like him better than Gaines Adams, Jarvis Moss and Lamarr Woodley in 2007. I like him better than Vernon Gholston, Chris Long, and Quentin Groves in 2008. And I like him better than any other 3-4 OLB prospect this year, including Everette Brown.
I've said in several other threads that I consider Barwin to have "perfect storm" potential at 3-4 OLB in terms of athleticism, versatility, smarts, motor, character, intelligence, ability to play in space, etc. There's only a few prospects I've liked as much in the past 4 years - Mayo and BJ Raji to name two.
I like Everette Brown a lot and he's certainly a much more polished DE than Barwin. But he's shorter and smaller with less athleticism and he's more of a pure pass rusher. At just over 6'1" he seems too short for me - if he were 6'3"+ I would probably rate him higher. There were also rumors he was playing much lighter during last season, as low as 225#, even though he weighed in at the combine in the 250's. I wouldn't be at all unhappy to get him, but I wouldn't take him over Barwin.
So I'm just being consistent. Demented, possibly. But consistent.
And no, Barwin's not my son. My son is 3 1/2 and loves building train sets and then destroying them, and if he and Barwin were both available at 23 I'd pick my son hands down.

At the same point in their careers, he is not as productive a player as Cameron Wimbley. I my mind Brown is not a 3-4 OLB, but a pure 4-3 DE.

Not at 6'1 256 he isnt. Great first step I think he would be great as a Rush LB.

I'm serious, but you already know that.
Brown and Barwin got very similar grades from NFL Draft Scout's evaluator, Brown 7.35, Barwin 7.23. Where it gets interesting is looking at the breakdown scores within - Brown's score is first:
Football Sense: 6.7, 7.0
Work Habits: 6.8, 7.5
Explosion/Pursuit: 8.3, 7.8
Strength at point: 6.1, 6.4
Use of Hands: 8.0, 6.7
Lateral Pursuit/Effort: 5.7, 7.0
Tackling Ability: 7.9, 6.2
Run Defense: 6.3, 7.8
Pass Rush: 8.8, 8.3
Instincts/Recognition: 7.5, 6.7
Barwin has two areas where his numbers are much lower: Use of Hands and Tackling Ability. It isn't until you read the write up that you see the score doesn't fully reflect the improvement over the course of the season, which the evaluator makes an effort to point out.
Brown has two numbers that really jump out as lower too: Lateral Pursuit/Effort and Run Defense. The evaluator makes a point of noting how Brown's stiffness in Lateral Pursuit may prevent a move to LB. Run Defense, it is what it is.
Both men were being evaluated as Defensive Ends, so they got a level playing field for comparison.

Some compare Brown to Dallas' DeMarcus Ware, but he does not have the fluid hips to drop back in pass coverage, making it a potential unwise move to plant him in the linebacking unit. History says that Florida State defensive ends rarely excel in the pros, but if used in the right system like Indianapolis utilizes with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, Brown could be the one to break the Seminoles' jinx.

Barwin plays with a non-stop motor. Right now, he makes plays on instincts alone, but you can see with each passing week that he is developing a good feel for the game. Still, with his speed and edge rushing skills, he could be a nice fit in a 3-4 alignment as a strong-side linebacker.

That's the problem. He is 6'1", and he is a 4-3 DE. It's not clear he has the size to be a successful 4-3 DE, and he doesn't have the blazing speed of a Dwight Freeney. And he doesn't have either the height or the athleticism that I would like to see as a 3-4 OLB. He seems like a more talented version Elvis Dumeril to me. He's a nice player, but I don't see where he fits. So perhaps #23 is a stretch, but I assume BB could find a way to use him productively, as he clearly has talent.
