Default 3/29 7-Rounder from Abramowitz

This from Mike Abramowitz "The Football Expert":

The Football Expert: 2009 NFL Mock Draft - 7 Rounds

His Pats picks:

23. Clay Matthews, LB
34. Clint Sintim, LB
47. Sean Smith, CB/S
58. Duke Robinson, OG
89. Chase Coffman, TE
97. Sherrod Martin, CB/S
124. Chris Baker, DT
170. Tom Brandstater, QB (but he also has Brandstater going #198)
207. Cary Harris, CB
234. Demetrius Byrd, WR

I like the Sean Smith and Chris Baker picks, given who is available at those spots. Dryheat will probably like the Sintim pick, but he passes on most of my preferred picks:

37. Louis Delmas, S
43. William Beatty, OT
44. Connor Barwin, OLB
49. Larry English, DE/LB
52. Jamon Meredith, OT
53. Jarron Gilbert, DE/DT
63. Eric Wood, OG/C
82. James Casey, TE
101. TJ Lang, OT/G
107. Trevor Canfield, OG
144. Jason Phillips, ILB
162. Sammie Lee Hill, DT
163. Mike Wallace, WR
182. Kevin Huber, P
194. Thomas Morstead, P
232. Devin Moore, RB
233. Lardarius Webb, CB
256. Graham Gano, K/P

My preference:

23. Barwin, OLB
34. Delmas, S
43. Beatty, OT (trade #58 and #89)
47. Gilbert, DE
97. Lang or Canfield, OG
124. Baker, DT
170. Mike Wallace, WR (off by 7, within range)
207. Devin Moore, RB
234. Lardarius Webb, CB (off by 1, within range)

Plus possibly a trade to get one of the 3 punters.

If you take out flabby lean on the defender Robinson and repalce him with a drive blcoker like Wood/Mack/Lang and I like this draft a lot.

I think Coffman has the best hands of any TE entering the league in the past few years. The 4.85 scares me, but his route running is above average so that should help him get some separation.

its tough to a draft seriously when he has a player going twice

On first glance, I like the Sintim, Coffman, Martin, and Harris (probably my favorite from USCs defense in the draft) picks. I like Brandstater as a prospect, but that seems early. I like the Robinson pick if he can play tackle. I can't imagine a turd like Baker on the Patriots.

Just a minor point, but if Demetrius Byrd is taken in the seventh round, I'll eat a foot slime encased Dr Scholl's arch support insert.

What's the matter? You don't like Hats?

D Byrd is projected anywhere from the fifth through seventh, so it's certainly possible.

With a random universe ruled by chance, I suppose anything is possible. Given that, I would still say Demetrius Byrd might be one of the most underrated WR prospects by rank and file fans in this draft. Receivers with his kind of size/speed combination are routinely forgiven for middling production come draft day. And despite is apparent inability to jump at the combine, I am still convinced he will be a safer pick than Mike Wallace.
