I don't know anything except that in one article, he was mentioned in the same sentence as gholston *shiver*

Gholston is a very bad comparison. Unlike Gholston, Maybin shows up on gameday.

But we already have a very fast, not yet strong enough pass rusher in Shawn Crable. Why would we need a Crable-clone?

I do not pretend to know a ton about football, but I did go to Penn State when Aaron Maybin was recruited. From Day 1 he was the leader of his class and organized the recruitment of all football players in his region to come to Penn State.

Then once on the team, he quickly became a vocal leader while working his way up the roster. He definitely is the kind of guy you want in your locker room to be an example for younger players.

I would say, even more then Paul Pozlusny, he was the purest "leader" I saw on the grid iron while I was at Penn State

Maybin has enough experience in a similar defense that I think he could come in and get some snaps as a rook. I'm not so sure there are many rush-end, 'backers more suited for the Pats scheme than Maybin.

He's not a Crable clone. Maybin is a much more highly ranked prospect. Crable was ranked a 3rd rounder and that's where we drafted him. I'm not even sure if Maybin will make it to #23.

I'm not referring to rank. I'm referring to body type and specialty. Both guys are not very well developed, both are very fast, and both are speed rushers off the edge. Maybin will not play right away in the NFL, and you need that with a first rounder.

It's quite possible that a weak performance in lifting at the combine knocks him back a round.

From fans perpective, he didn't stand out in the Rose Bowl. He is known for pass rush and had good stats last season, but so did Victor Butler who could be drafted in the later rounds.

from nationalfootballpost.com
Victor Butler: Oregon State (6-2, 238) Projection: 6th Round
An explosive defensive end at Oregon State who will make the transition to linebacker in the NFL. An ideal 3-4 outside linebacker prospect with natural pass rush ability

from footballdraftanalysis.com
9) Victor Butler OLB 6'2 238 Oregon State
Butler currently plays rush DE for the Beavers, but his size or lack there of will
force him to play OLB at the next level. Butler is quick around the edge and
has enough moved to keep opposing OTs guessing. He's expecting to be in
the double digits this year in terms of TFLs. He looks athletic enough to make
the transition into a fine 3-4 OLB candidate.
