Default Tight Ends

Anyone else think we are thin at TE.
Brady needs all the protection he can get so perhaps a blocking specialist and then maybe Ben Watson can hopefully become the threat he has the potential to be...

Just a thought...
BB loves his tight ends, I dont think this is too odd of a suggestion

Anyways, are there any intriguing prospects that might be around in the 3rd or 2nd round (or any round for that matter)... Or any good UFA tight ends...

I'm not high on the TE class in this draft and I'm wondering if the spread offense with Brady, Moss, & Welker has moved the offensive plan past the heavy use of TEs in BB's early years. I'd expect the Pats to draft a TE if they find a good value, but I'm not anticipating any special effort to target a TE.

As with any college TE it takes some time to develop blocking skills. Ben watson played 76% of the snaps and rarely went out patterns and was kept as a blocking TE. looking at our rusing numbers and number of snaps he clearly has gotten very good at it.

so we spend time and develop ben to block and then change it and start all over again with a rookie ?.also we have moved to a 3 WR base set so in reality you just need 2 starting TE [1 starting and 1 backup] and 3rd backup TE who will be a non starter.

I think Watson's looking good in Blocking and I'd expect Meri style effort to improve his ball skills. He's at 2/3, imo - elite speed, above averaging blocking and average catching. He's not the horrid receiver every gets on him about, but his tipping balls to defenders is a little sucky, hehe.

If we keep working with a third TE being an O-Lineman or LB, and keep working with Ben and one other tolerable TE (maybe an UDFA, maybe Thomas gets focused after being a non-factor) I think we're ok. To me on offense we'll like score an OT and a surprise grab will be a WR in the third.
