Default Another Preliminary Mock draft

Maybe a bit optimistic in spots.... Not flashy but addresses some needs.

#48 (from SD) Rashaad Johnson - S - Alabama
#56 Fenuki Tupou - OT - Oregon

3rd round:

4th round:

#120: Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State

I would be fine with it. Not very impressed with Duke Robinson. I think he can be had in the 2nd round. do like the johnson pick and Bear Pascoe.

#48 (from SD) Rashaad Johnson - S - Alabama NFLDS has him in the late 3rd/early 4th. Not a bad pick, but I think we can find some similar players a little later.
#56 Fenuki Tupou - OT - Oregon I like him, but like Ochmed I'd rather grab his partner Unger who can play all along the line.

#86 (comp pick) Mike Mickens - CB - Cincinnati NFLDS has him rated late 1/early 2. I like him and would be psyched to get him here - his partner Smith might wind up being here, which would be a good thing.
#88 Jarron Gilbert - DT - SD State I like this kid, this is also a bit early according to NFLDS' projection, but a good value for me.

#120: Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State check
I'd like to see you lay out your thoughts ranking NE's needs.

One minor point--the comp pick comes after all other picks, so it can't be earlier than #97.

Thanks for the comments. It's nice to have actual discussion instead of someone just saying "YOUR DRAFT SUCKS!" and such

My thoughts on NE's needs.....

I think the biggest needs are:

Safety
Offensive Line
DT for the future
Well rounded TE
A Legit #1 RB (none struck me in this draft)

And actually in light of actually writing down my thoughts on needs I'm thinking maybe instead of Duke Robinson we grab up William Moore with the first pick (I expect Mays to be gone). Might look like this instead (moved some guys around with your insight.) I added Rashad Johnson as a later round pick at Saftey....I kinda like Nic Harris as a saftey as well. Big for the position (well he'd be a SS anyway), a little slow, but good football speed, has played MLB for Oklahoma this year too.

#24: William Moore - S - Missouri

2nd round:

#48 (from SD) Mike Mickens - CB - Cincinnati
#56 Fenuki Tupou - OT - Oregon

#88 Rashad Johnson - S - Alabama

I like that draft a lot better, though I'm not sure Moore slides that far and I want to watch him in his bowl game I recorded to assess his fit for NE.

Just to give you some of my thoughts on the draft:

#24: Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma to develop behind Randy Moss as a #3 and future #1. --- If some of the junior WR come out and push him to the second round I'm thinking LB Clint Sintim, Virginia (I want to try him at SILB, but he could also play OLB if he doesn't work out inside) or NT B.J. Raji, BC. If LB Brandon Spikes, Florida declares he would be the #1 option.

#48: If he's still here, Connor Barwin, LB, Cincinnati (I just plain like this kid at OLB, I think he could be better there than he is as a DE now. He'd also be a #3 TE and he's a STs Ace.)

#56: Augustus Parrish, OT, Kent State. --- Alternates would be Eric Woods, C, Louisville and Trevor Canfield, G, Cincinnati. (NFL Draft Scout has Fenuki at #42 -- Parrish or Fenuki would offer more versitility to move someone in at RG if needed.)

#88: Eric Norwood, LB, South Carolina. --- Alternates would be Rashad Johnson, Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers, or Chip Vaughn, S, Wake Forest. (Norwood is a kid whom I think could be another Bruschi at ILB. The Safeties are self explanatory.)

#97: Gilbert. (I think this kid could develop into another Jarvis Green.)

Based on the Patriots' Free Agency moves (mostly re-signing their own) this will change drastically.
- Currently I'm hoping Mike Wright is re-signed, if not B.J. Raji or his running mate Ron Brace will be more attractive to develop behind big Vince.
- I'm hoping James Sanders is re-signed.
- I'm expecting Russ Hochstein to be re-signed.

Needs: S, ILB
Future Needs: WR, DL, OL
Competition/Upgrades: OLB, OL, WR

If we're spending a 1st round pick on Moore, why do we need to spend another pick on R. Johnson? Unless you are predicting Meriweather to come down the LM injury syndrome, I'd project him to start at the other safety spot in 2009. Might want to look into a linebacker or a tight end instead for round 3. I haven't heard much about Pascoe yet, but if he's as good as you think he probably won't last till the end of round 4.

Well I'm guessing Rodney is going to be a goner for good, and both the Sanders maybe too since they are UFA's. So maybe three vacancies at Saftey, but lets hope for no more than two. Therefore two new Safeties to fill the holes. I do expect Brandon to start..... But I forgot about ol' Tank Williams if he is able to come back healthy.....hmmm...if he doesn't though, and the other three go, then possibly 4 safeties gone (well three Safeties and one CB/S).

Although now you mention it the second S spot might be better to go after a SS like Nic Harris who has the bigger build and strength to be a tweener LB/SS

Loving the discourse fellas. Good stuff. I loose a little intrest in the playoffs since NE's not in it, but the draft is awesome year round
Some info on Bear Pascoe (I love how well rounded he is and his blocking ability too...a little slow though):

Of course these picks would/could change drastically with Free agency...but this is just to get my brain rolling...
