Most of us have a good idea of how the salary cap works, but I at least am not so clear on the comp pick rules.

I'm semi-sure that one doesn't get comp picks at all unless the outgoing FAs were greater in number than the incoming FAs. However, I don't know whether that's all incoming FAs, or just ones of certain kinds.

So my questions are:

• Do the Pats stand to get comp picks at all?
• If so, for how many/which departed FAs?
• If so, what level of picks seem plausible?

It would be a pity of the arrival of several JAG CBs -- or of the IRed Tank Williams -- prevented a 3rd round comp pick for Asante, not to mention whatever Gay or Stallworth are worth ...
