And the argument for allowing assault weapons to be sold unabated, reaches a new intellectual high with this very pertinent and well thought comment..

Perhaps a thesis on this would be in order..

There is no argument necessary....it's our right under the 2nd amendment.

But I was responding to the Brit's comment about my country.

And yes, the London Olympics sucked.

Haven't gun crimes skyrocketed in the UK in the last 12 years or so? Something like a 85% or 90% increase?

The police in London seem to be carrying sub machine guns.

Typical elitist attitude.

England's awesome, half the states in the US suck.

Redcoat wannabe.

What do you mean by "elitist"?

Aren't there any states that suck? I think there are. Is it "elitist" to say Mississippi, Arkansas and Kansas suck? Who said half of them did?

You're overly dramatizing things. I've never owned a gun and never have been in a situation where I wish I had one. I'd wager that 99.9-percent of Americans are the same way. Where we differ is on using your fists. I haven't been in a fistfight since grade school. Yes, our society is flawed like all others, but unlike yours we're not emotionally constipated. Perhaps that's why your fists are so "active."

How do we measure the benefit if we can't agree on how to measure the deterrent effect? If you eliminate the variable of unsecured weapons ( i.e. those not under lock and key to prevent accidental access) that health risk to others approaches zero. Yes it can be used for suicide but so can many other things...

All I have to say is I have a 38 revolver, 9 mm ... and my grandfathers very old double barrel shotgun.

If someone knocks my door in I will be ready and happy to oblige.

I think having at least gun in the house with the right precautions is a good thing.

As in every topic there will be good and bad to go with that decision ... but I'd rather have than not have.

If someone is breaking my door down ... I already have plans to grab the shotgun ... so I don't miss.
