From my view of watching my 17 year old grandson, he likes to stay up late, and will sleep in unless he has school or work.. then he is up an at it.
This summer he had 6 days off in total, and a couple of weeks after working 40+ hours a week landscaping would work a party for a caterer on a Saturday night until after midnight, and then would have to be back to work at 6:00 AM to clean up..
Now he delivers pizza two nights a week, at the catering company if needed and also works for Case Snow Removal.. shovels for them at National Grid if there is 3+ inches of snow..
Work is his strength, never missed a day.. sleeping in is a choice if he has nothing else to do...
His friends are pretty similar..

I'm not a parent, so I don't know the answer to my question.
I'll start by stating that I've always been a close uncle to 2 of my nephews who live close by. I done many things with both of them. But of course, as they've gotten older, they don't want to hang with their uncle much anymore. They are now 19 and 15 years old.
But one thing I've noticed (especially in the older one) is that they both stay up super late and often sleep well past noon. Sometimes even til 2pm. This isn't infrequent, but a norm if they don't have school. So during summers and vacations, it's pretty much everyday.
Is this common or is just my nephews? It doesn't seem healthy or a good way to enter adulthood. And 19 today is the same as 19 was back in 1978 when I was that age. It's not the age of a child, but an adult.
Would like to read posts from members with experience.
They are referred to as “homo slackass-erectus” created by natural genetic downward evolution through constant spineless posturing and spasmodic upper limb gestures, which new research has shown to cause shorter legs and an inability to ambulate other than in an awkward shuffling gait.
The "drag-crotch" shape also seems to effect brain function. Expect no eye contact or intelligent verbal communication. They also like to spend all day in bed. Below is a rare photo of one seen awake in the daytime. Unfortunately most are highly fertile.
