Default Charles Durning

One learns so much more of a person in reading their obituary or press clippings when they pass. Lost five of his siblings to disease and was captured at the Battle of the Bulge.

It's been my experience that real heroes and men and women of true bravery who've survived horrible hardship seldom talk about it - they feel no need to convince anyone else (or, by extension, themselves) of their courage.

It is one reason I am always suspicious of people like John McCain who've made a lifelong profession of it.

RIP Charles Durning and Daniel Inouye - another quiet hero.

Why use a post about a good person passing away to take a shot at a politician you don't like?

And surprised to learn that he survived the Bitburg/Malmedy massacres of GIs...

I'd give you a serious answer if not for this:

Really? You can not see the difference? One thread is discussing a recently deceased actor's life with no politics involved. And, the other is talking about a politician that ran for President against Obama...

Or maybe you do see the difference but just don't want to admit you used a thread about Durning to take a shot at Mccain.

I bet if I had posted before you and said something to the effect of "Well, Charles Durning was truly brave not like that coward and draft dodger Bill Clinton" then someone would have called me on it and rightly so.

This was the topic ... let's not ruin Scout's thread.

Was a good read ... adversity and what you do with it can lead to prosperity of life .
