VIDEO GAMES!!! Twentysomething boys play video games. It's a HUGE part of their social culture. And all the games involve mass killing.

Which is exaclty why I always say we need to tell our children that cell phones and video games are not an important part of life.

I only say that because it's true.

Possibly killed his father at his house then killed his mother who is a teacher at the school and her classroom ... one report out there.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people who lost their children and family members today. I just moved to Trumbull, CT which is 20 minutes from Newtown. Ironically, my fiance and I almost bought a house in Newtown, CT.

I really think that teachers should be mandated to carry firearms to protect the children. There would of been much less deaths or no deaths if teachers were trained and carried. A Criminal or Murderer LOVES their victims to be unarmed!

The cat's sort of out of the bag, unfortunately. Have you recently been around a group of kids from teenage-twenties? They barely talk to each other. They all mill around in groups looking at their smart phones. At home, they play video games that rack up scores by body count.

I think it is a combination of things. I don't know why these tragedies are on the news 24/7 after the happen. They have experts try and figure out why it happened which is probably good, but it does not have to be done on television.

Then, when all is said and done the books and movies come out. For some people that are mentally ill and crave attention being immortalized in any way may be the spark.

These people have problems to begin with and I do not believe that the parents and close friends/teachers do not know there is a problem/

Do you really believe a kindergarten teacher will want to carry a gun???..

How about some commonsense to all of this, limit access to schools by strangers #1....

The assumption is that there are no guns in a school, so if you give them to teachers then there are guns...

Sympathies to the families, unimaginable horror...

Remember hearing a commentary on video games, and one was touting the fact that their game avoided "massacre fatigue"... they obviously know it...

My Nephew works for EA, and last time I saw him asked him if he was able to make any linkage between the games they create and violence... he and his wife do not talk to me any more.

So true. It's not uncommon to see a group of kids together, say, riding on the Subway, everyone is silently mind melded to their phones and nobody speaks to each other at all.

Then let's make those violent video games illegal. We've had guns in this country for hundreds of years. Rarely did we ever see mass murders prior to violent video games.

And I said "rarely", so please don't be a dope and post an example from the 60's/70's.

Actually, I really like KDP's suggestion because, as we all know, school teachers NEVER become unhinged.

Let's give 1 million+ teachers revolvers and put them in closed classrooms with large groups of children.

Yeah, that'll solve it.
