Mother of All Congress Threads - Throw It All In Here
My pet peeve ... Congress ... We need to discuss it more ... America needs to discuss it more. As i have been saying for some time now ... this (Congress) is the #1 enemy to productivity in this country.
Yes I said that
... the 112th Congress should have been called the Honey Boo Boo Congress because they operated at 6 year old Alana's mentality. Kicking, screaming, taking the ball away so nobody could play.
Yes ... I said that also ... prove me wrong.
I'll kick off this thread with this bit ...
no direction here ... anything related to the Congress topic is welcome in this thread.
But with only weeks to go before it concludes, the 112th Congress (2011-2012) is on track to make another type of history.
By passing just 196 bills into law so far, it is in the running to become the least productive Congress since the 1940s.
In fact, that amount is 710 fewer public laws than was produced by the 80th Congress (from 1947-48), which first earned the moniker "Do-Nothing" Congress.
If I had more time i would factor in how much pro rated it cost to elected each member of Congress to the 112th + their salary/benefits/staff costs ... then divide that number by the 196 bills to see how much it cost us for each bill. That number would be awesome to know ... a very big number for sure.

I see a downward trend. Could be because of two things - less need for laws and greater powers from executive branches and agencies whose decisions dont derive from congressional law.

well i don't think that and to be honest i have no clue as to what a normal number should be right now. But i do know we have a ton of issues and they have been sitting on their hands too much. Word is they are afraid to do anything that can be used against them. Well ... then perhaps you should not have run in the first place. The men who wrote our Constitution were not afraid to be bold ... and it's the time to be bold.
I would rather see executive orders go down and congressional bills go up ... with debates on the floor and the media reporting on it all.
