IC stated that there was no mandate by the American people and he's absolutely correct. I'm wondering why you came back with a comment on the electoral results which have nothing to do with the opinions of the American people. That can only measured by the results of the popular vote.

OBAMA 50%

vs.

ROMENY 48%
So do you have any other facts that would support your contention that Americans are solidly behind Obama or the democratic party?

The consensus of the media is that the election wasn't a rining endorsement of our president...far from it.
Prior to the election a landslide was defined by the Romney Campaign as something beyond 330 electoral votes, post election they want to change the definition.. again.

Did you read what I wrote bud?

Allow me to repeat what I wrote.

If we're discussing the election on a political level, Obama won the electoral college by around 330 to 200 for Romney. That could be considered a landslide victory.

But if we are discussing whether or not a mandate was sent out by the American people, then we MUST ONLY consider the results of the popular vote.

After all, the opinions of Americans can not be analyzed by the results of the electoral vote Darryl. It can only been seen in the popular vote.

Ya know what I'm sayn?

But Illegal Contact wasn't discussing what the media or republicans said, he was discussing what the American people had to say.

And that can ONLY be determined by the popular vote.

Which was

50% Obama

vs

48% Romney

If you'd like to counter my post, you must address the POPULAR vote, otherwise you're engaging in a circular argument Patters.

Looking forward to your response.

Funny how "some" don't understand that PUBLIC OPINION = POPULAR VOTE.

Go figure.....

This will be relevant when we hold elections based on popular vote. Personally I'd like to scrap the EC but up until Tuesday all I heard from the right was how indispensable it was for the sacred disproportionate representation of white rural communities. Also, nobody ever declares that the other side has a mandate.

BTW, how many more times are you going to post the wrong % popular vote?

What did your source have as the popular vote results?

BTW...popular vote IS the only relevant way to measure public opinion in America. We were discussing whether or not a mandate was sent out by the American people and popular vote results are the only way to measure that.

The point is that as currently constituted we are not a democracy, so aggregate public opinion does not matter in terms of whether or not a President has a mandate. If you win the electoral college by a prohibitive amount it is totally irrelevant what the popular vote is since you have enough political capital to expend and still maintain your advantage when it comes to winning elections. If you want to measure popular vote as an indicator then, as has been discussed the Presidency and both houses of congress were won by the Dems. That's a pretty clear indication that the Democratic platform is preferred to the republican one by the electorate.

The current count in the election has Obama up 3%, 51% to 48%

Discussing the popular vote in regards to the mandate is pointless, since it won't get you elected.

The mandate is D, and from that sound electoral college win we will see more of it in the future.

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.

But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.

I just don't trust her, she gives me the willies but I hope you're right about her mission.
