You can scale up big European countries to here easily. France, England, and Germany are good examples. It's dumb to assume you can't just quadruple something that works for 75 million and make it work for 300, and I've never heard any support for the premise. What exactly would go haywire? I could see if you were talking about some microstate like Lichtenstein, but I want to hear the justification for why it's so hard to scale by a factor of, say, four.
I think for the next four years, the whole premise is way premature. What we have right now is market-based, and a lot more republicans have to die off (they skew older) before we can truly take care of all our citizens... the way we take care of the elderly.
PFnVA - Are you of the opinion that an existing European system that we could model would have some sort of Economies of Scale to it?
If it costs 1M dollars for England to cover their 53M citizens, are you of the opinion that it would cost the US 6M to cover 300M?
In 2008 England spent 92.5B Pounds (147B$)
6 times that would be roughly $885B (which would be 184B$ more than the current defense budget).
Where are you going to get an addition 800 or so billion dollars to pay for this?

He won't do anything to health care, that's already on track to end as single payer.
Tax rates will go up on the rich. I'm to the point where I'm OK with that, 8 of the top 10 richest counties in the country voted for obama, if they want higher taxes who am I to say no.
My answer is carbon taxing that he'll push through via the EPA not congress. He discovered in his last year that he can bypass congress and he will continue to just make laws as he sees fit. His green energy plans cannot work without making carbon products more expensive. So . . .
On a serious note I would like to see more women in his inner circle of people .. too many men ... he needs more diversity in that circle because sometimes I think his people are too much yes people. One thing that helped Clinton was that he had brains that would get in his face - that is good for sheltered people. it was Bill's little brain that caused him trouble unfortunately.
