It's widely acknowledged that the Tea Party was begun after Obama was innaugurated.
Thats is true. But there were grumblings and protest of out of control spending during the Bush years. The bailouts and "stimulus" were actually what caused the party to grow and hit the streets. There were plenty of people complaining about Bush's spending . I am right now for crissakes.

What made occupy look stupid (because they were) that they protested wall street and bailouts but never the parties that bailed them out. When you had a president who took more money from wall street than any president in the last 20 years.

I agree here. They occupied Accessories to the Crime.

Should have Occupied the WH and the Capital. Wall St. only does what the government allows them to do.

poverty can never be "fixed". Every single nation on this earth has it's share of poverty...without exception.

Again, every social issue MUST be viewed from the perspective "what are our available resources and how best can we spend them?"

Rather than, "How can we increase revenues enough to fund "X"?"

And then other questions must be asked such as, "Will this program be subject to abuse and fraud? And if so, what is its potential liablity?"

Nothing angers Americans more than abuse of social programs.

How much is gov't responsible in fixing social issues vs how much is each individual responsible?

That's the was we should be looking toward the future.

Until the cost of abuses exceeds the perceived benefit to otherwise needy people these programs will stand

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.

But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.

That being said, the Apostle Paul had some interesting words about those who don't support themselves and have the ability to do so:

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

It has existed for the entirety of human history and no one has ever cured it.

It will always exist because "poor" is a moving target.

Today you make the poor -> lower middle class and tomorrow you make the lower middle class -> middle class because they are now poor.

We must protect and care for those who are unable to do so (that is what makes us different than other animals).

But poverty will exist until we as species meet our demise. Eradicating it is an exercise in futility.

People need to understand the bible, no matter how you look, cannot be relied upon to give good, consistent political advice.

Period. To me it's like staring at alphabet soup and trying to divine who you're investing in today.

Exactley. And if you look at last nights election the same friggin thing is going on. The crime is still happening. And they are blind to the root of it, because it there party that is committing the crime.
The tea party was holding republicans responsible by voting the SOB's out in primaries.
How do you think Scott brown got elected in the first place? It was a protest vote against bambicare and the most hideous piece of legistlation foisted on the american people.
