A Utah County man charged with raping five women will remain in jail with bail set at $2 million after a judge denied a defense motion to reduce the amount.
Peterson is well known in Utah Republican circles, and has hosted political events at a cabin in Heber, where prosecutors say some of the sexual assaults occurred. Peterson met all four women because of his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to testimony.

Gregory Nathan Peterson Dead: Well-Connected GOP Activist Facing Rape Charges Found In Utah Cabin

SALT LAKE CITY — A Republican activist charged with raping five women apparently committed suicide Tuesday at the Heber cabin where the crimes allegedly took place, sheriff's officials said.

Wasatch County sheriff's officials were dispatched to the cabin after Peterson missed an appointment with his attorneys, authorities said. Chief Deputy Jared Rigby confirmed the body of Gregory Nathan Peterson was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
