Angry All EVIL Things Monsanto

I follow and read these Monsanto stories with great interests. I know I suffer from conspiracy syndrome at times but I think there's much truth to many of the Monsanto horror stories. These people are very powerful in the food industry and especially in Congress. They are squeezing out the small farmers and that's just one side of them.

We have many intelligent members in the forum ... hopefully a few will like this topic. I want to see where it goes ... here in our forum.

I'll start with the latest Monsanto story:

French scientists question safety of GM corn - All We Can Eat - The Washington Post

Quote:
A controversial new French study claims that rats fed a diet of Monsanto’s genetically modified maize and/or exposed to the company’s top-selling weedkiller were more likely to die prematurely and develop tumors and organ damage.

The two-year, peer-reviewed study, allegedly the first to look at the long-term effects of genetically engineered corn on animals, was published today in the Food and Chemical Toxicology journal. It was backed by the Committee of Research and Independent Information on Genetic Engineering (CRII-GEN), a French nonprofit known for its opposition to GM foods.

In a telephone conference call with U.S. reporters on Wednesday afternoon, Gilles-Eric Seralini, a biologist at Caen University and the study’s lead author, noted that GM animal studies typically conclude after three months, likely because companies behind genetically modified foods don’t want to know the long-term consequences of their products.

Monsanto, Pesticide Companies Contribute Another $5.5 Million to Kill GMO Labeling Initiative - PR Newswire - The Sacramento Bee

Quote:
Monsanto just gave an additional $2.89 million to defeat Proposition 37, which would require labeling of genetically engineered foods in California. Monsanto's total contribution against Proposition 37 now stands at $7.1 million, according to campaign finance disclosure records filed with the California Secretary of State.

Other major pesticide companies also just made major additional contributions to defeat Proposition 37, including DuPont ($874,800), Dow AgroSciences ($815,200), Bayer CropScience ($381,600), BASF Plant Science ($357,700) and Syngenta ($178,700).

"Monsanto wants to buy this election so they can keep hiding what's really in our food," said Gary Ruskin, campaign manager of the Yes on Proposition 37 campaign. "They are on the losing side of history. Californians want the right to know what's in our food, and we will win it."

Monsanto threatens to sue the entire state of Vermont — RT

Quote:
Lawmakers in Vermont are looking to regulate food labels so customers can know which products are made from genetically modified crops, but agricultural giants Monsanto say they will sue if the state follows through.
If the bill in question, H-722 (the “VT Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act”) passes the state Senate and House, manufacturers will be required to label products that are created either partially or in full from a genetically modified organism, or GMO.

Such man-made crops have become a trademark of the billion-dollar Monsanto corporation, and in the past the company has gone to great lengths to keep themselves the number-one name in American agriculture, even if those profits are made possible from playing God.
company is way to powerful - absurd power.
Quote:
With Vermont legislators now standing in the way of what could mean even more money for Monsanto, the company says they will sue the state if H-722 is approved. Now in fear of a lawsuit in the future, lawmakers in Vermont have put a hold on any future voting regarding the bill. If history is any indication, Monsanto is more than likely to have their way and win yet another battle.

I just threw that in there ... really the thread is about Monsanto and their manipulation of the food we eat. I don't hate Romney or Obama ... no axe to grind here - they both have faults and benefits IMO. I took it out ... i'd rather discuss Monsanto.

Manipulation of the world population is easily done through food.

Truth be told, I'd prefer a plague or Astroid, but that is a topic for a different thread
