Why are so many people against showing an ID when voting.

Why should somebody who doesn't have any indentification be alloweed to vote.

Voting is important.

From the numbers I was able to find (OECD has some if you are so inclined) the US has one of the lowest turnout rates in the developed world (the US was around 50% in 2010)

Your explanation for that would be people don't like the candidates.
Wista's is because it isn't important (and cynical side of me sees what he is getting at).

My explanation is we are a lazy people who don't see the value in it anymore. I don't think you make things better by just not participating in the process.
