Rush Limbaugh recently said that if Obama wins, it will be the end of the Republican Party. And the truth is, the Republicans face a really difficult situation whether Obama wins or not. Minorities of all kinds tend to favor a stronger role for the federal government than most Republicans favor, and as a result generally support Democrats. In addition, Democrats are well positioned and actively trying to connect with veterans, another group that benefits from government largess.

On the right, you have an awkward coalition of traditional Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians. If that coalition is not enough to get Republicans elected to the presidency, how do they expand the coalition without jeopardizing other parts of it? It seems to me their main strategy if Obama gets elected is to hope the economy goes into a tailspin so that people become desperate for an alternative. But, that might not happen, and even if it does, the promise of cutting the safety net is not necessarily enticing.

Given the reality of changing demographics, will the Republican Party survive? Who will be the new Republicans?

Starting in 2006, and then "officially" in 2008, the GOP was "finished". At least that's what I kept hearing. Then 2010 happened. Supposedly 2010 was the coming "end" for democrats, and now they're in a 50/50 race for the WH. So the end of days crap is really meaningless in a Coke and Pepsi system. Why? Cuz the "other" team only has to be as good as their opponents starter. When those starters are inept maroons like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, or complete novices like Barack Obama, the republicans (Coke if u prefer) will never be out of the game for long. The same applies for the democrats. When idiots like Mitch McConnell & Cries alot John Bonehead are running the show, the other team will always have a chance. This country has no capable, intelligent, experienced leadership. At all. The country will die before either of the party's do.


What Rush might be right about, is that the republican party as he knows it might be cooked. The days of the neo-con are numbered.


Forget the parties surviving. If the government doesn't get its fiscal house in order, it'll be the country that doesn't survive. Giving out free ****, while simutaneously running a welfare state (corporate, military, and civlian), has us on a path to implosion.

Rush claimed that he was the leader of the Republican Party, and none of its "leaders" challenged him.. so what are we to assume.
