Very true HD.
My only question is if your bump (Obama's) has more to do with an ex-POTUS's speech than it does with your speech/ideas (which from what I have read, other than policy on Education, there weren't many spoken to), what does that mean?

Today's job report will wipe out any bounce.

Yeah...adding 98,000 jobs and lowering unemployment is somehow terrible?
I don't treat the jobs report as a wall street projection, I treat it as a plus or minus. Its PLUS adding jobs, and MINUS unemployment. To me thats headed in the right direction.

1 is the loneliest number
I doubt ANY politician can out speak Bubba.....
It says a lot about Obama that Clinton delivered his nomination, and his VP and Wife are getting so many props on their speeches. It means that his supporters are excited to get people excited about him.
Romney was outshined by an ikea chair. got a 1% bump.

Agreed, I would put him up there with Lincoln for sure.

you do the math.
Maybe I was too vague in my question (or you outright disagree with the premise). My point was/is what does it say about Obama and his chances that the bump he is seeing has nada to do with him or his policy stances and everything to do with:
1. A guy who will probably have zero impact on peoples lives as it pertains to policy.
And to a lesser extent, the First Lady and VP?
I put very little into either convention, in fact I think they mean very little outside of Rebel Rousing the base, people who were already going to be voting for Obama/Romney anyway.
As Nik said previously, with little substance to either guy's speech; policy, road map to getting us out of the doldrums etc, wise, I could make the argument that this is a bump for Clinton more than it is a bump for Obama.

I see what you are saying, but thats going to be hard to see any data explaining WHY a president gets a boost in percentage after a convention. Just that they normally rise about 5% in the past.
Can we ask ourselves why Romney only got a 1% bump? what caused the 4% to not rally?
those are difficult things to accurately count in polling.
the #s are in for Mitt (1%), we just have to wait and see what Obama gets.

Is 350,000 + people dropping out of the workforce a plus or minus?

Cuz aspects of the brand are not popular with Independents? Not to mention, isn't the base still on the fence with his stances/background?
As for your first point, I'm not trying to quantify "Clinton's role" in the bump. Just pointing out that to this reader, after Billy falls back into the shadows, and its back to Obama vs Mitt, does the bump (what is truly there and not just the "National ADD/freshest thing in your mind" bump) survive?
Not sure why I am asking all these questions honestly. Neither one of them will get my vote. But one of them will be the POTUS....
