I actually doubt it. Don't get me wrong, Obama is a good debater, but he's in a far different position this time around. He'll actually have to defend his policy, which for a large portion of the peoples, are not very popular. He can't just stand up there and say "I am the way... and I am the light" like he did last time.
Mitt just has to not make any glaring errors and keep hammering on Obama's unpopular policy moves like Obamacare (as one example).

Post convention bounces dissipate in a couple of weeks so they really don't matter. Romney's was limited because of the storm; I think RCP's average had him gain a point, maybe two. I think Obama will get more than "a point, maybe two" because of the Clinton speech and because there were no competing stories.
But, I think they will be virtually tied (i.e., within two points on the RCP average) at the time of the first debate. IMO, the outcome won't be settled until the end of October.

Interesting take PFS74, and one I agree with theme wise.
I do find the bolded part ironic if nothing else. A potential Obama bump coming on the heels of the convention as a result of a speech (which I assume was good) by an former POTUS who would have next to no impact on what the current POTUS would do if reelected (unless of course Billy is taking on a cabinet position in the 2nd term Obama admin).
------------------ “On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson..they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

I'd have said Obama would get a slightly better bounce, but then I saw this mornings job report. Eww...
BTW, another jobs report or two like that, and the debates won't matter.

I get by with a little help from my friends...
The Clinton-effect is, I agree, improbable. But, he somehow has a 69% Favorable rating now and so I think he probably moved a few folks as part of the bounce. The effect will, however, dissipate, as all convention-related boosts do. Personally, I thought he held back and muted his attacks on Bush 43, perhaps because of the unwritten rules of engagement among former presidents. I heard him speak to a small group at an event just a couple of weeks ago and he was far more passionate...and convincing.
I, too, am curious as to what he asked for in return for the speech. He's enjoying his life way too much to be tied down to a cabinet post. He is, however, obsessed with his legacy, so maybe he wants to be given a highly visible portfolio as an Ambassador at Large in an Obama Second Term. Or, maybe he asked for something for Hillary. We might never know.
