Specifically where you stand when it comes to rape, and when it comes to the issue of should it be legal for a woman to be able to get an abortion if she’s raped?” WJHL reporter Josh Smith wondered.
“I’m very proud of my pro-life record, and I’ve always adopted the idea that, the position that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life,” Ryan explained. “But let’s remember, I’m joining the Romney-Ryan ticket. And the president makes policy.”

I see where he is coming from ... us being a civilized society has changed the way we view things though. I'm sure if we could go back in time rape or forms of rape were prevalent to survival of the tribe. The big strong men probably impregnated their women whether they wanted it that way or not. We didn't come to this point in time from passionate love making for sure.
However - we are a civilized society and we do have laws and women have rights about their body. Those rights and those laws now come before nature. This is where I have trouble with the republican viewpoint. They seem stuck back in the primitive age of man. the way they think God wants it. god is one thing - our laws in this country are another and God comes 2nd to those laws IMO.
It's what is best for most people. the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few - Spock nailed it. I have problems with 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester abortions. There are many, many women who have miscarriages between the 10th and 13th week of pregnancies ... my wife had 2 after having 2 healthy kids - that's where we learned about it.
So even nature rejects many of these fetuses - that's not abortion either unless one twists it to nature abortion. That being said it seems to me that the body decides if that fetus should be a human after that period and the pregnancy continues on. if that's the point where nature determines the pregnancy continues then we also should go along with the same time frame if possible.
Also - and I have said this before ... if the GOP is so against abortion why have they never wanted increases in funding for adoption? Seems like they are talking out of 2 sides of their mouth here.

See if a child is conceived in the commission of a rape the only guilty person who should be punished is the rapist, not the mother or the child.
Putting an innocent child to death because of the crime of another person is wrong if one understands that the child in the womb is the start of a new and unique human life.

Re: Paul Ryan says that he believes rape is just another “method of conception"...
Both sides of this issue have people who employ some very inconsistent logic. I don't understand the logic of a pro-lifer who says you can have abortions in the case of rape because, if you believe the unborn are human, then naturally the manner of conception is irrelevant. (And could someone please explain to me why the phrase "manner of conception" is so insulting to some?)
But the pro-choicers are pretty darn hypocritical too. Most pro choicers (no, not all, but certainly most) believe there comes a point when a woman should not be able to have an abortion. That line falls somewhere in the 4th to 7th month for most people (enjoy the preseason action, Mr!). But if a woman is free to do with her body whatever she wants, then why should the length of gestation be a factor?

Cool story... So in your utopia, the mother is somehow NOT being punished by being forced to carry a rapist's kid in her body for nine months? Perhaps she's being rewarded?
Re: Paul Ryan says that he believes rape is just another “method of conception"...
Paul Ryan is right. Rape is a "just another" method of conception.
method of conception = any way an egg comes to be fertilized
So..... Penis into vagina, ejaculation, sperm fertilizes egg no matter what the circumstance is by definition, a method of conception
I don't think it's meant as a justification or legitimization of rape the way he says it. You can disagree with his belief that a child, no matter what the method of conception, has the right to life (or. that it's solely the mother's choice)....... but to try to make something of his statement is stretching it a bit.
Any time that sperm has the potential to meet egg is a potential "method of conception". It's kinda like clinical Doctor speak.
