Obama has basically manipulated the salary cap to win now and worry about the bill when hes long out of town.

The emphasis is on cost savings, not denial of coverage and treatment. The Ryan approach is to "end Medicare as we know it," and turn it into a coupon book, costing the average senior $6,500 per year.

It's good to start having this conversation. We have two sons of privilege proposing to gut the safety net they and their ilk will never need. Ryan used it anyway, going through college on Social Security survivor benefits. By the way, I got pretty much the exact same benefit during college, though it does sound like he qualified for more -- my dad, like his, died when I was a teen. I do not, however, advocate gutting said system.

You oughtta add that fact to the list:

All this is organizational shuffling of future plans of money. It's silly to think of the money literally being taken away.
