I am very proud of Obama on this issue. These kids did nothing wrong, they deserve to stay. At times like these we need to remember what America stands for ... what it always stood for ... it stood for dreams and hopefully many of these kids have great dreams.
I would say 20 years ago most of the New England area Hispanic voters were against anything gay. The tide started turning about 10 years ago and today while not totally accepted they are coming out of the closet.
Overall I would say they are anywhere from 7-10 years behind the rest of the country in this area. I think between now and 2020 the gap will be slim at best. The thing is that back home you stay in the closet except in the cities where there is some acceptance. We have more people coming here from the countries so they have needed some time to get used to it.
I don't think this issue will work for the GOP going forward in gaining Hispanic voters. It's funny because many of them have a fair amount of GOP in them but they refuse to see it.
There are several hundred million kids on the planet who have "done nothing wrong." Are we supposed to allow them to come on in and live off the government dole as well?
Are they now in the USA?
You comment regarding living off the government dole is extremely racist.
Why do you assume any of them is on welfare or government assistance?
Do you normally assume anyone of Hispanic heritage lives off the government?
I can tell you first hand that not one of these people come here to collect welfare ... they come to work and when the work is gone they move on either to another state or back home to their native country. If you knew any of these people you would understand this or you would not assume they live off welfare.
For those religious folks, stealing is against the Ten Commandments. It is a basic crime all over the planet and in every society. It is a constant. The crime of theft has never been and never will be on par with being in a country without the right paperwork.
Your analogy is weak and insulting to good people who are just trying to support their families in a place far from their home and who, in most cases, would prefer to be home with their family, culture and friends- like my father and mother. Try again.
Pandering is what Romney does, when he changes his point of view depending on the political winds. (He softened his anti-immigrant views in response to Obama's actions.) Obama isn't pandering with this decision since he's been committed to immigration reform all along, but no doubt that his timing is political.
