But what ever happened to the All-American right to do what you want with your property /business? Are the same people "outraged" by this loser's behavior the same ones who agree with Rand Paul that the CRA was unconstitutional and that all businesses should be allowed to discriminate? Maybe not all, but I'm willing to bet that some are. I'm just too lazy to go back into the thread vaults to research it. The same a-hole that refuses to hire a Muslim, black or gay has that right as long as he's willing to face the consequences the marketplace will bring down on him, right?
Unfortunately for those who agree with Paul, this is a case that comes in conflict with their "principles". Fortunately, we are a nation of laws. Some of those laws now protect people from unreasonable discrimination. We are adaptable and will change our laws as we (eventually) change as a group or when the rights of individuals are compromised.
Asking questions does not equate with the defense of anyone... comprende??
No I don't "comprende" that because when someone asks questions which are accusatory in nature, and in your case those accusations were levied at the serviceman and not the landlady, then that person is clearly making a point and taking sides.
Darryl, even your fellow liberals in here aren't moronic enough to believe that your "questions" aren't a defense of the landlady. Stop insulting their intelligence.
I disagree with you. I asked questions and am clearly not on the side of the landlady. Questions are questions. They do not mean you are taking sides. Because you assume that does not make it so. This guy is a soldier. That does not make him above reproach. Soldiers are no more or less moral than anyone else. You also make the false assertion that anyone who believes DarrylS or MrsPFinVa are not taking sides is a moron. They may or may not, but leaving something open to interpretation does not make you a moron.
In Mass, you are allowed to be more selectivve about who you rent to if you live in the building and there is less than 4 units (I think that's the number). That rule is in place for this very situation and was designed to make 3-decker living more attreactive for owner-occupied landlords. At least that's how a housing court judge explained it to me. That same veteran could just as easily own a three-decker, live on the first floor and discriminate on a number of areas that another off-site landlord might not have.

We obviously agree to disagree but I just want my statement to be reflected accurately: I am not saying that any questions anyone asks equate to taking sides. I'm just saying that when someone asks a line of questions which are accusatory in nature, with those accusations directed at one side of the debate and not the other, then it is clear which side the questioner is on.
IMHO, it's insulting to pose an accusatory line of questions towards only one of the parties involved, then step back and say "hey I'm not taking sides." To suggest the following post is just an impartial take on the situation, and not taking sides, is patently absurd:

To pull the above ***** then say "hey I'm just asking questions, not taking sides!" is an insult to the intelligence of the members of this forum.
