Dear New Yorkers.
Stay out of the restaurants, go to the supermarket, buy a whole bunch of *****, buy a couple of cases of beer, sit around with your friends, pig out, fried steak, tons of boiled shrimp dunked in sauce, spare ribs, italian sausge, fried chicken, put a big sign in your window that says "F-ck You Bloomers"

God Willing, sing a few songs, you will feel great, remember you only pass this way once.

I'll eat when I'm hungry
I'll drink when I'm dry
I'll have sex when I can
Until the day that I die.
Harry

Another Bloomism. He's the Mayor of New York City, tell me he has nothing more important to focus his efforts on than banning the sale of 32 oz sodas Focus instead on educating people or better yet let businesses start advertising better choices, like the smaller soda, themselves and let the markets decide. Let the advertisers push for healthier choices etc. There are endless commercials on TV for burgers, Taco Bell, pizza. Then you see a Jenny Craig commercial on "how I lost 100 pounds in just 6 months" -they not only tempt people, they later offer them a delicious, quick and easy way to shed all those unwanted pounds! Madison Avenue needs to start more appealing ads for healthy lifestyle choices and companies need to start getting more innovative. Even McD's has been offering salads, yogurts, fruit for a long time now. It's not about banning something, it's about offering people attractive, good-tasting, reasonably priced, healthier alternatives- especially on TV.

Given the techno surveillance in NYC, walking around with a 32 oz cup of anything will probably get you stopped and questioned, maybe inspect your drink to make sure it isn't a sugary soda Walking around with 2 16 oz cups of anything might get you on the watchlist as one of those "rebel types". LOL watch your backs out there

You really want to go down that path in a comparison with alcohol?

Plenty of folks smoke pot in moderation, just like plenty of drinkers do the same. And for the folks that overdo it on weed, I think we all know of their counterparts.

(If we're going by personal friends / acquaintances, I know far more alcoholics -- at least a half dozen leap to mind. I know one guy who smokes "a lot" -- and even that just means that he smokes close to daily, no different than the many people who have a drink or two daily. and he also is a good dad, runs a successful business, etc...)

No more surf 'n turf, too many calories. In fact, anything larger than a 7 ounce filet is too large. And from now on, restaurants will only be permitted to sell one small sized side dish per meal. And appetizers and desserts are forbidden since they too will bring you over your maximum calorie allowance.
It doesn't need to be slippery slope, actually -- the logic is exactly the same.

Something is bad for you, be it excess sugar or excess fat / calories / carbs. So we, the all-knowing government, will prohibit a single serving of the "bad" that is too large. If it can be a soda, it can be a meal, steak, dessert, whatever.

New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks

Chang W. Lee/The New York Times

Mr. Bloomberg on Wednesday with Linda Gibbs, deputy mayor for health. By each soda is the amount of sugar in it.

By MICHAEL M. GRYNBAUM

Published: May 30, 2012 503 Comments

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.

Next thing ya know. ol Bloomie's gonna hire some extra Soda-police to make sure people abide by his law....damn shame people.

Pot-Smoking Mom Drove with Baby on Top of Car

Call it "Dude, Where's My Car Seat?" A pot-smoking teen mom in Arizona faces criminal charges after she strapped her infant son into a child safety seat -- which she placed on the roof of her car and then absent-mindedly drove away.

The car seat fell off the roof and landed in a nearby intersection, Phoenix police told Reuters. The mom, 19-year-old Catalina Clouser, apparently didn't notice.

Witnesses called police, and soon the young mother returned to claim her 5-week-old child, who was not hurt. It was apparently Clouser's second run-in with the cops that same night.

A few hours earlier, Catalina Clouser had been smoking marijuana at a park with her boyfriend and others, according to ABC News. When Clouser and her boyfriend drove to a store to buy beer, her boyfriend got pulled over for DUI. Clouser's infant son was also in the car, police said.

All kidding aside, I voted to lessen the penalty on pot smoking here in Ma. It's just stupid to arrest people for it. Selling is one thing, smoking is another. What I do dislike, is the process involved in fining people. Apparently it's toothless.
Sadly for the child, she doesn't deserve to be a mother.....prayers for the baby.

Interesting observation about Bloomie (over at Hotair) , one the one hand he believes in abortion and women having the freedom to deatroy their unborn children OTOH those same women can't decide how big a soft drink to buy..........

So now Bloomberg is a leftist? You have a clue, yes?

The man won the seat as a Republican. He ripped anyone who advocated pulling out of Iraq. He's also free trade, profoundly pro-business, and routinely describes himself as a fiscal conservative.

But yeah. He must have a "socialist" agenda. Good job!

Harry, do you ever tire of being 180 degrees wrong in every thread you participate in?
