Defense spending isn't the partisan issue that the uneducated try to make it out to be. Whenever the Pentagon recommends a reduction in spending or such-and-such program be cut (and yes, the Pentagon does make such recommendations), the congressmen - be they republican or democrat - from whatever district Blue Yonder Air Force Base is located, or the area they assemble the parts for the XPQ-546 Widowmaker Missile System opposes such cuts with every fiber of their being.
Usually at the termination of a war there is a peace dividend, except for now.
Both Paul Ryan and Willard both propose an increase in defense spending.. at a time when there should be discussions about closing down foreign bases and all of the logistics associated with such.
To continue to expand the military, will only lead to incredible fiscal chaos in the future.. Senators and Representatives look upon the defense budget as their own private stimulus plan.
Did you ever think about those companies who rely exclusively on Defense contracts lobby??? They are essentially using the money allocated for their projects to lobby.. ergo our tax dollar is being used to lobby.
Right now we have vast private armies paid for by the taxpayer, the brainchild of Cheney, and they do not fall under the pervue of Congress or the President... that is scary.

You try to tip toe around it but nothing has changed with Obama in charge. Haliburton is still getting the contracts (and that was when Obama had total control) and the military is still getting a huge cut of tax payers money.
Obama could have kicked Haliburton to the curb, he had the power to get rid of tax cuts for the rich, he had the backing to close Gitmo (he waited until he could not before he tried). Face the facts, both D and R are bought and paid for before they get a shot at real power.
And, I bet the people that buy them love to see our country fight between left and right. They know that if by a miracle Romney wins that he is bought too.
Now there are $17,000 drip pans in helicopters.. wonder how much Phoenix Products contributes to Rep. Rogers Campaign.. mondo bizarro.
Quote:
WASHINGTON -- In the 1980s, the military had its infamous $800 toilet seat. Today, it has a $17,000 drip pan
Thanks to a powerful Kentucky congressman who has steered tens of millions of federal dollars to his district, the Army has bought about $6.5 million worth of the "leakproof" drip pans in the past three years to catch transmission fluid on Black Hawk helicopters. And it might want more from the Kentucky company that makes the pans, even though a similar pan from another company costs a small fraction of the price: about $2,500.
The Kentucky company, Phoenix Products, got the job to produce the pans after Rep. Harold Rogers, a Republican who is now the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, added an earmark to a 2009 spending bill.
And heres something we probably won't even hear about if it happens, up grading old tactical nukes. Cost, 6 billion as of now. What a wast of money this would be along with further agitating the russians for no good reason. Some people are still stuck in the fifties and sixties.
The B61 is the last remnant of the Cold War in Germany. An estimated 10 to 20 of the atomic bombs are thought to remain in storage at a German Air Force base in Büchel, But the fact that such a scenario is considered extremely unlikely has not prevented the US from embarking on an effort to upgrade the stockpile, as it is doing with much of its nuclear arsenal. The Life Extension Program (LEP) for the B61 -- of which there are between 160 and 200 in Europe -- is considered to be the most difficult and expensive of all. In 2010, the Department of Energy requested almost $2 billion (€1.6 billion) for the project, to be spent over four years. Later, the number rose to $4 billion.
Now, the total is expected to by closer to $6 billion,
Rachel Maddow's book, "Drift".. speaks to the waste in the military and how the unregulated armies are adrift in this country and the world.
For you righties who read this,Maddow bashes Obama almost as much as she bashes Cheney.. but Cheney deserves more, because it was his idea to have private armies so the President could avoid congress...
Now am reading, "The Day We Lost the H Bomb", which is equally fascinating and scary..
Military madness has ruined my country..
