Default Cries of Youth Over the Years

Hippies: "Why don't you leave behind your money and guns and love each other"?
Dad: Get a haircut.

Punks: LEAVE BEHIND YOUR FU(KING MONEY AND GUNS AND FU(KIN LOVE EACH OTHER
Dad: Not that haircut.

Hip-Hop (1st wave): Yo, I got the money and the guns now
Dad: Security!

Grunge: All apologies. BLAM.
Dad: That Curt Cobain, always shooting off his mouth.

Today: He's not heavy, he's my husband.
Dad: Well... I reckon I use to be a hippie, so okay...

Back in the day, in a certain time frame would put on a stack of vinyl... and always really enjoyed, Steeley Dan.. between Pretzel Logic and Aja..

Sweet sounds...

Definitely a unique sound. Back in the day it was daring, now it's sort of like "grampa music" I think. Back then I kind of though "wow, a fusion of rock and jazz, a rock-jazz fusion if you will." Then that ran its course over in a little eddy of music. There's no ego in it, and music's been about ego for the last couple decades. Kids these days... get off my lawn...

This AM working with my grandson rebuilding an ATV and listening to Little Steven's Garage, amazing how much I missed and how much I forgot... the themes this AM were mother's and girl punk bands.

Did a whole thing on girls and garage bands, missed a lot there as well..

Completely missed the infatuation with Frank Zappa, while my bro in law never missed a concert, I was more into "trippy" music, even though I never dared to "trip", thought I might not come back and wind up on a back ward somewhere....

But mostly forgot a lot of it...

War... Slippin into darkness, low rider.

Oh yeah ...I'm a few years behind you but definitely disliked Zappa and Tull I didn't get it. My sister is about your age and she was in a band. I grew up on Joplin, Dylan, Hendrix ... Woodstock and all the rest. Naturally I did not partake in the booze, the spliffs and the free sex and hairy women until a bit later.

I was working an event at the Dallas Convention Center a number of years back. The one hall was exhibiting low riders from the Dallas area. Front and center was the original band performing "low rider". No one from those cars turned off much less down, their music. I guess the analogy is LeBron changing his number to number 9 our of respect to Jordan.
