Dunnt apparently Mr MAxwell Esq, has a different impression of Romney than he did in the past:

Romney’s Classmate’s Account: From ‘Real Disciplined’ to ‘Disturbing’ - By Jim Geraghty - The Campaign Spot - National Review Online

Quote:
Maxwell, describing young Mitt Romney, to the New Republic, four years ago:

“On weekends, those guys had a set of chores, and there wasn’t a whole lot of extra time,” recalls Phillip Maxwell, who first got to know Mitt when they were in the fourth grade together. “Their father was a real taskmaster – very fair, but he instilled real discipline.”

“He wasn’t an athlete, which was tough on him, because other members of his family were,” says Philip Maxwell. “He just wasn’t coordinated in that way.” Other classmates remember Mitt as young for his age emotionally, at least by Cranbrook standards, more popular than admired, a “happy-go-lucky guy” known less for his achievements than his pranks – like the time he and some friends borrowed a state trooper’s uniform from his father’s security detail and pulled over students from the neighboring girls’ school.

Of course who described homself as a democrat is now saying he is an independent:

Romney Bullying Witness ABC News Presents as Apolitical Told Mag He's a Democrat

Quote:
David Muir:

I did ask that other former classmate, Philip Maxwell, the man who described [Romney's bullying] in such detail -- is he a Democrat, is he a Republican? -- he says, he's voted for both and, in fact, he would've voted for George Romney, Mitt Romney's father, had he won the nomination.

Well, recently, this same Philip Maxwell told Automobile Magazine writer, David Murray:

“’I'm a Democrat, so I won't vote for him,’ says Maxwell. 'But he'd probably make a pretty good President. He's very smart, very principled.’”

According to Automobile Magazine, Philip Maxwell is a Democrat who is obviously going to vote for Barack Obama.

So why did ABC news not tell their viewers about Maxwell's political biases?

Why did Maxwell change his story?

The internal polls must be pretty bad for Axelrod and the opp research team to bring out this story so soon this is usually held for the last week of the campaign (see Bush drunk driving story 2000).

PF, from your National Review Online quote in the above post, this stood out in addition:

".....Other classmates remember Mitt as young for his age emotionally, at least by Cranbrook standards, more popular than admired, a “happy-go-lucky guy” known less for his achievements than his pranks – like the time he and some friends borrowed a state trooper’s uniform from his father’s security detail and pulled over students from the neighboring girls’ school......"

Now, we've already had 8 years too many of Dubya this century.

So how Romney was in school days is an issue.

How Obama was in school days was irrelevant in 2008.

Amazing ....

Why does it matter what party he belongs to?

It's not really a relevant issue. Romney is a bad enough candidate on his own.

It is newsworthy, though, and made even moreso by Romney's handling of the situation.

LOL handling? He just said he didn't remember an event that might not have ever occurred. The ones making an issue are the radical partisans, such as yourself.

First he claimed to have no recollection of the events, which wasn't exactly true as he's now essentially pleading no contest.

Radical partisan, LOL.

Fact 1 - you remember leading your little mob of torch-bearing peasants, pursuing a guy, tackling him, holding him down, and cutting his hair while he futilely cries for someone to help him. Every one of the other perps did.

Fact 2 - Since Romney remembers "if it ever occurred," if it did not, why didn't he say so?

Answer: Because it did. Even the partisan whack-jobs on this board know that. Why even bother to blather the proxy denial for the guy?

It happened. He could have fixed it by saying "I did some really hurtful things a long time ago that now seem terrible. I'm so sorry."

#1 We don't know that it happened!

#2 Confronting the issue in an aggressive way isn't always the best answer... "I did not have sexual relations with that woman..." ring any bells?

I think he handled it just fine. Almost 50 years ago, he pranked a lot of kids. Their recollections might be different than his, or they may recall something he doesn't. Better to just state you don't recall then apologize if anything did happen that was offensive. To date, no concrete evidence has been presented. Basically every source in WP article has now some taint to it or has claimed to have been mischaracterized. Keep going with your crazy witch-hunt and we'll keep focusing on the economy.

Do we even know anything about Obama's school days? Nope.

I think middle of the road voters will be far more cognizant and aware with respect to what's reported, who is reported on, and why.
