"Ideology cannot be a substitute for a determination to think for yourself, for a willingness to study an issue objectively, and for the fortitude to sometimes disagree with your party or even your constituents," he said."
You people are comical. Absolutely comical. I don't even know the name of the person who beat him. All I know is it's the treasuruer (i think), and a male. I learned that yesterday in passing. I have no clue if the dude is a loon, legit, or a single position he holds. I've never seen a picture of him. I just think it's a good thing when a lifer gets tossed. Look at where we are today. These lifers need to go. I've long believed in term limits, and when a 40 year lifer gets ousted, I'm generally pleased. Thank you for your service, and enjoy the real world.
Politics should not be a life long career. Worse is when a single seat becomes a career job. We constantly complain about business as usual in DC, how corrupt the system is, or how useless the people in office are. Yet, when a dinosaur who's served 40 years, and is 80 gets tossed, you frauds come in here and say "wow, there goes a good one" or "those people are bat **** crazy". Says the people who voted in Ted Kennedy and Rep Brothel for decades on end.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." As a quick example he took over 150K in farm subsidies, even though he really lived in the metro DC area.
He voted for the bailouts for the bankers and UAW.

Here are the longest serving members currently in office. I hope they all get tossed. No one should be in congress, or the senate, for 30, 40, and even 50 years! NO ONE!!!!
Orrin Hatch (R-UT) Jan 3, 1977 to present 35 years, 3 months, 21 days
Richard Lugar (R-IN) Jan 3, 1977 to present 35 years, 3 months, 21 days

Agree. The Tea Party guy will lose, though. Unintended consequences on the part of Utahianites. Lugar was a good Senator, IMO, but his time is up...was a long time ago.
Don't know if that is correct Indiana is a relative conservative and this guy has won 2 elections with over 60% of the vote in 2010 for State Treasurer.
from his campaign website:
[quote]Richard Mourdock was elected Indiana’s State Treasurer in November 2006 and was re-elected in 2010, leading the Republican ticket with over 62% of the vote. As Treasurer, Richard has been an integral part of the state’s fiscal health. Richard’s leadership earned over $1 billion in investment income for taxpayers and successfully expanded the state’s college savings plan. At the same time, his office has returned an average of 10% of his budget back to the Treasury each year.
I like the part about not spending all his budget, we need a LOT more of that.

I have no problem with term limits, and I have no problem with veteran pols getting displaced.
I don't see it as a positive when said replacement is markedly diminished from the prior seat holder. That's really all there is to it.
And if you want to see dysfunctional government, vote for people like Mike Lee and Richard Mourdock.
If you have a veteran, the replacement will always be "diminished" -- that's just a foolish expectation. Did you argue for Bledsoe to come back and play in the Super Bowl?
There are 21 senators who's been in their seat for 20+ years, and another handfull who are close to it. If we had a limit of 3 terms, which is 18 years, all these clowns would have to go. I think that would be a good thing from a general perspective.
