Great, we can lower unemployment by having fewer people.
And btw, Australia has universal healthcare.
No, I'm not looking for a solution, but rather, I provided a clear explanation as why Australia can do things we can't.
Where exactly did I suggest "Forcible emigration"?
Large, wealthy nations like Australia that have extremely low population density and a high percent of their labor force working will always be able to do more for their citizens than countries like ours.
Infrastructure is much cheaper to maintain per capita in Australia than it is here.
We have 55% of our population subsidizing the other 45%. What do you think those numbers look like for Australia...just for grins?

They also escaped the recent global downturn in the economy, so their view is somewhat different.. their growth has been steady.

I was reading this as Australia, in lieu of SocSec, has required Private Investment Accounts.
From what I gather, the Aussie private system is currently in addition to the pension system with a goal of relieving some of the pressure on that original system over a period of several decades.

Thanks for the honest reply Shmessy....appreciate that as always.
All I could honestly find was what they call "Social Security" would be more akin to our Social Security (as a general retirement fund), plus Welfare, disability, unemployment insurance etc etc etc.

D
No prob. Actually, it looks like they have a VERY WIDE safety net system -- - that even includes a Maternity Payment and a Parenting Payment!
It's interesting that PF13 is holding up the Australians as models to emulate. There's a lot of interesting stuff there!
I think our very own Congressional Progressive Caucas would be very supportive of PF13's Australia system!

I wonder how American business owners (large and small) would feel about the government mandating that they contribute a matching 9% into each employee's Private Retirement Account.
Aren't most US dollar-to-dollar employer-matched 401Ks set quite a bit lower than that?

Well, they already match the 7.65% FICA (6.2% Social Security, 1.45% Medicare).
