Re: Would you rather have a dog on the roof of your car or on the roof of your mouth?
Interesting...In my 8 years in Indonesia I never heard of anyone eating dog - however it is quite common in China and Korea.
Having said that, I lived there some time after Obama did, so obviously things could have changed.
I will note that while we were there, dogs were considered "terrible animals" in a cultural/Islamic sense. In fact calling someone there a dog (or pig) is far more an insult to the local populace than any of "our" insults.

American Politics has descended to the very depths of the inane and ridiculous. It's so sad that BOTH sides are slinging this silly nonsense. It's gonna be a LONG 6+ months.
I bet barack hussain obama killed the dog by cutting its head of in some islamic sacrificial ritual. Then he drank the dogs blood after eating the heart raw. So i guess thats how mittens the flip flopper is going to try to solve his dog problem.

You know Pat_in_NY, I agree completely with you.
I was just in Darryl's voting fraud thread...and boy, I can see this election cycle being dirty and very tabloidesque; dog stories, Castle in France, voter fraud, birther, he's rich, bet ya 10 grand, he's a commie, what's your tax return look like? and on and on and on.
Sadly focusing on this crap deflects attention from the real issues at stake, instead the minions (us) will fight about Romney being cruel to animals, or if Obama is a socialist.....
I guess I am only half surprised, as it almost seems natural after 12 years of extremely divisive POTUS' (founded in reality or not, Ds hated the Bush years and Rs have hated the Obama years).

Muslims (at least Indonesian ones when I was there) wouldn't touch a dog because they are dirty.
My buddies dog bumped in my day-guard one time and he had to go wash himself in volcanic mud, rinse with water and repeat 7x...
This little "tabloid" story seems fishy to me....
(Hebeill I did recognize the humor of your post, just sharing what "I knew").

No, your probably not wrong. Who gives a ***** though. It happened in 1983. There are TONS of stuff that we, as a society, did that nowadays would be looked at as appalling. Back in the day, we used to routinely ride around in my parents 1972 Kingswood unbelted. We were probably only 7-10 years old. Does that make my parent bad parent? No..... It was a different era.
I bet back in the day if you saw a dog, in a crate, strapped to the top of a car, you likely wouldn't have batted an eye. Even if you did, if you had asked what he was doing and he said "we wanted to take him on vacation with us instead of leaving him in a crate" you would have walked away saying "Awww, isn't that sweet". Take the politics away from it, and put it the context of time and this story is stupid.
If he had done this last week, it would have been one thing, but it's not. It was a different time. Regardless of all that, its a stupid issue when you look at the issue we are currently facing to be talking "dog" stories from several decades ago................. ON BOTH SIDES.
Ditto for eating dog meat as a kid (which he admitted in his book). I went to China as an adult, and there was a ton of stuff I ate that I didn't know what it was (I don't think it was dog), but as a guest, and because of social custom, I ate it.

Apparently the story comes from "Dreams of My Father:"
Quote:
With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.

I'm glad Mitt going this route.
Thats the only thing these people understand smear the smearers use their own Alinsky tactics on them and they hate it.
