Politically Correct people like to feel all Warm & Gooey about themselves "oh i'm so good" slop, slop, slop.
So the opposite of that would be that those people who are not politically correct are people who do not want to feel good about themselves and who pride themselves on their ill-chosen words and their ignorance.
If someone's feelings are hurt, it's their fault Harry, not yours....
It used to be that children were taught to be polite...to be considerate...to not hurt someone's feelings if they could at all help it.
One of my grandmother's favorite sayings was, "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all."
If someone called you a name it was their failing, not your's. When did that change, PR? Or is it simply something you tell yourself to absolve yourself of guilt?
Somehow good manners, politeness and the age-old civilized art of simply being courteous got renamed "politically correct," and it became more fashionable to mock and decry it than it was to actually take the time to acquire the knowlege, intelligence and sophistication necessary to practice it.
Says alot about where civilization is headed, doesn't it?

P.S. And your article? That has nothing to do with "PC" and everything to do with over-reaction combined with a huge lack of common sense.
One of my kids got booted out of school for 5 days and got a "sexual misconduct" on his permanent record in high school because, on the day after his swim team won state, he and the rest of his teammates were horsing around in the hallways. They had picked my son up and were carrying him thru the halls on their shoulders....a teacher saw them and yelled, "Put him down," and they did -- only they put him down virtually on top of a girl from the girl's swim team who was walking with them - they grabbed at one another to keep from falling. The teacher wrote up my son for "unacceptable contact with a member of the opposite sex," in spite of the fact that everyone involved, including the girl and her parents, said it was an unavoidable accident and no "bad touch" occured or was intended.
We fought it to a partial win - the suspension was served but removed from his record - the actual charge remained, but with a detailed explanation.
Again, I don't think it had anything to do with being "PC," and everything to do with over-reaction on the part of the teacher and the administration.

No, I wasn't referring to name calling. But when one is having a conversation with a group of people, one shouldn't have to be careful about or how one says something.
In other words, I'm never consciously politically correct, so I may say something some people take personally. For instance, while over my brother/sister in-laws house recently, I said their neighbor Janet was a bit of a lunatic and my brother pretended to be offended as if this woman was his friend (which she isn't). The truth is, she is a bit of a lunatic.
The discussion was over one of her sons named Collin who is extremely gifted athletically and we were discussing reasons why he is a bit of an under-achiever. Their entire home was/is a nuthouse as the father lied to his family for 2+ years that he was employed and worked from home...turned out, he had been fired and was having an affair. They separated or divorced and now kids & young adults party at this house all the time and do oxycontin and whatever (the parents had 5 children).
I know and like Collin as he is my oldest nephews best friend. I was defending the (17 yr old) kid by saying he lived in a nuthouse and still does pretty well.
Note: my brother is overly PC.
Political correctness is over rated in my opinion.
I'd like to add something else...teachers can't use red ink and give out F's in red with a big circle around them anymore. "Fail" is a bad word for teachers...eff that...if you FAIL, you fail and just accept it. I'm not referring to first or second graders either. At some point, if you fail often, you're gonna be told you failed....learn to accept it.

Well let's see, Harry. Maybe if The Japanese had a popular song called, "I'm a Jappy Crappy Dandy," and a baseball team called the "Tokyo Jappys," or a spaceship command module and a famous sumo wrestler named the "Jap Clipper," or a Supreme Court Justice known as "The Magnificant Jap," they'd be just fine with the term.
Be that as it may, there are countries who deliberately use the word "Yankee" or "Yank" to mean something slightly derogatory. England, Ireland, Australia, Canada come to mind.
And yes, we get upset when someone from those countries refers to us as "Yanks" or "Yankees." But we do not get upset when other Americans call us the same thing.
It's that old "familiarity" thing, Harry. You can say it if you have it, if you do not have it, it's not something you should say.
