I'll go first!!!

Newt Gingrich:

Claim

"When I was speaker, we had four consecutive balanced budgets, the only time in your lifetime, Brian, that we've had four consecutive balanced budgets," Gingrich said. "Most people think that's good."

Fact

Newt was speaker from January 1995 to January 1999. The budget was balanced 98 and 99 - but there were deficits in 96 and 97.

The budget remained balanced in 2000 and 2001 - but Newt was no longer speaker by then.

The bigger lie is that there was ever a truly balanced budget, or a surplus. Every fiscal years "revenue" totals included excess funds from pension plans, and SS taxes. IOU's counted as revenue.
