A little bit. Never though of that. How do you know it's true? I know many Dems but have never heard that sentiment expressed...ever.
HD was using positions which are generally associated with things republicans oppose to support his assertion that modern day republicans wouldn't vote for Reagan. The same hold with regards to JFK, who opposed abortion, believed in God (and no problem mentioning Him promenently in speeches), got us into Vietnam, was when liberals today call a "neo-con", opposed communism, lowered taxes and supported smaller government.

Can you name us some elected Democrats at the national level who are on record not believing in God?

Well, that's true, but I still never heard a lib dem say that about Jack. I suppose they might. But right now the issue is how the Pepsis will select a candidate to beat Obama. They are not being serious when they throw guys out like Santorum and bash Romney because he's too moderate. Obama's moderate, too, according to those on the far left. Same thing, IMO. Dennis Kucinich = Rick Perry. Neither could come close to winning the general election vs. any incumbent president.

You've never heard it before because wolfie just pulled it right out of his behind. The Democratic party never got around to telling Robert Byrd to GFY, never asked Joe Lieberman to get out and still lets Bernie Sanders caucus with 'em. There's a very specific reason for that and its one of the very big things that differentiates it from the GOP. Its called inclusion.

Man, I'd be very happy. One of the most beautiful states I've ever been to. would love to live in the Woodstock area and have dinner at the Italian Farmhouse once/week!
Just the smell of the air is enough to get one hooked. Smells like evergreens all the time.
All the rhetoric sounds all well and good, but Civics 101 states that you cannot accomplish all that much in DC if everyone is against you.
This is exactly what is wrong with voters today. You're completely giving in to a corrupt system of politicians on both sides. I really don't care what party you support as they are both full of crooks that don't give a rat's ass about the American people. This whole "idea" and scare tactic that folks use every election about this candidate or that candidate saying he "can't win" or that he "can't get anything through" is exactly why the status quo continues to exist where we all get fed a pile of dog feces from our politicians who are supposed to be "serving the people."
People need to vote with their heads and vote for the candidate that will try to do what's right for America and not for themselves and for the popularity within their party. This popularity game of who can be more popular amongst their party or amongst certain groups of people has to stop where people turn around and scare voters away from voting for a guy that might actually be on a mission to turn America around and advocate for "serving the people" which is a dead idea now days.

But per Patters, the lack of kicking out of nutjobs makes the whole GOP racist, right?

Patters can toss all the bombs he wants I suppose, since he's a mod and I'm not; but please don't ask me to defend them. The GOP has clearly gone batschit crazy, but racist? Not particularly.

I apologize for my poorly worded statement. I didn't mean that JFK simply "believed in God" which, you are right, pretty much every politician does (or at least claims to). What I meant, and gladly admit I did a poor job expressing, was his support of God being a part of government and our everyday lives. He wasn't a "get any mention of God out of the public forum and throw anyone in jail who tries to put a creche on town hall" type of fascist we see so frequently from today's left.
