Default US to give $239 million to Pakistan

Charge it to the National Credit Card.

How about doing this the old fashionned way and making someone earn it? Like let us has oil rights or natural gas.

The gov't keeps charging it and riding up our debt. They have no intention of paying that puppy off.

Our military isn't enough we need to support another nations.

Quote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States plans to shift about $230 million in aid to Pakistan from counterterrorism programs to upgrading the nation's aging F-16 fighter jets.

I'd love someone to show me where giving money to other countries is allowed anywhere in the Constitution or other such documents. It is a huge stretch to consider this part of the preamble : "provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." to legitimize spending like this - or spending on AIDS drugs in Africa.

Seriously, is this kind of spending actually allowed in any of our documents ?

Unfortunately, the argument always goes : "if we ignored the rest of the world we would have let Hitler go unfettered". But as with everything, it's where you place the limits. But while we get involved in 90% of the world's problems it should be about 5-10%. We have a virtually unpayable debt and, yet, keep giving money away. Unfortunately I think Obama will be even worse about this - it's the main reason I won't be swayed in his direction. He talked about knocking down the walls between rich countries and poor countries - we can only guess what he meant but it sounded to me like a passage of money from the U.S. to wherever.

If the Paki's were going to look the other way when we are running covert ops against Al Queda in Pakistan and firing the occasional hellfire at a target (OVL?), then this isn't a bad investment. Depends on what (if anything) we are getting in return.

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

I guess it goes back to why Al Quada hates us.

Why did outside nations hate Rome?

We should see if they're bluffing on just wanting us out of the middle east - make a deal with them, total withdrawal forever and in return we get : 1) no terrorist attacks on the U.S. home and abroad and 2) guaranteed flow of oil at market price, the exact mechanism of market price TBD by people smarter than me.
