Being leaderless didn't help them. A lack of leadership just led to a lack of direction, and of motion in fact. You can't just sit around waiting for something to happen, you have to go out and make it happen. About the only thing those folks did, that I recall anyway, besides sit around downtown, is that they walked over to the Statehouse (about a 1/4 mile for you non-Bostonians) and sat around there for a while. I think that if they hadn't been so anti-leader and so set on near total consensus for any actions at all more could have been done.

Anyway, I'm happy things didn't get violent and I hate to say it, but I have to credit Mumbles for handling things sensibly as opposed to many other Mayors around the country.

What Boston Police did was give them a huge favor, they had no endgame to avoid the harsh weather, and the Police gave them a very convenient out.

Now they have all winter to refine their message, methods and next steps... come next spring, they will be back somewhere with more than before, and perhaps a more coherent message...

OTOH,for some reason they believe that they do not need leadership, spokesmen and women or a easily understood message.....
