How on earth do people not see this guy for the huckster he is?
Quote:
As Newt Gingrich seeks the GOP nomination, the former House speaker frequently combines traditional political campaigning with the sales job for his books and films that has earned him millions. As his rivals on Friday scheduled busy days with voters in early nominating states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, Gingrich planned a single public event: a book signing in the nation's capital.
Gingrich has turned over his production company to his wife as he works to build support for his White House bid. Yet he still promotes their films, often hosting screenings on the sidelines during conservative conferences.
Afterward, aides sell DVDs of the programs and their companion books.
Apparently this is routine for Gingrich. He'll delivers a rousing speech, as he did at the Conservative Political Action Committee conference in Orlando, Fla., this summer; a short time later, he and his wife are at a table signing freshly purchased copies of their books. The same thing happened last week at events in South Carolina.
There seems little distinction between his campaigning and bookselling.

For instance, before a one-on-one debate with then-contender Herman Cain outside of Houston, Texas, the Gingriches signed copies of their books for fans who lined up to buy an autographed copy just outside the venue's doors. Nearby, a volunteer donned an elephant costume and stood in for the star of Callista's children's book, "Ellis the Elephant."

Well he isn't on the government dole, so how should he make a living while running that you would approve of?
What do you suggest? How should he pay his bills?

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

What does that mean? If it means he isn't collecting a government salary then I agree with you. Are Bachmann, Paul and Perry on the government dole as they are collecting a government salary?
BTW: I have no problem with what Newt is doing. If people want to buy his books/get an autograph then good for Newt.
Wouldn't getting people to read a book on his ideas help him get his message out?

As I said in a prior post, good for him.
How do you feel about Bachmann, Paul and Perry collecting government salary's as they ignore their obligations to the tax payers to fly all over the Country?

Doesn't it kinda open the door to wondering how he keeps campaign funds separate from personal funds, tho? I mean, if he writes his trip to whatever city he's selling books in as a campaign expense, isn't that a possible misuse of campaign funds if he's also using the trip to make personal money? Should campaign volunteers have to dress up as an elephant to sell his candidate's wife's book?
At best, it's a shady business area, I think.
What if he ends up getting Secret Service protection and he continues to do it? Do you want your tax money going to protect Newt and Callista's book revenue?
