Not undercut Mubarek knowing that the Muslim Brotherhood was waiting in the wings, this is what I said earlier in this year.
The Camp David accords are going to be nullified as per the leaders of the parties taking over. We could have a new war in the ME.

Mubarak was going down, US help or not. The smart move would have been to engage the Muslim Brotherhood years ago when they might have been more receptive to us. To Bush's credit on this issue, he did actually try to do that a bit. It met with fierce resistance here, unfortunately.

The nullification of the Camp David accords is not a fait accompli. The isn't the flimsy Phalangist-Israel treaty we're talking about here. There are billions in aid and equipment tied up in this deal. The Egyptians remember the lessons of the Iranian revolution well. Don't burn bridges with your chief arms supplier if you think you might ever need spare parts and ammunition in the future.

Well, that's the carrot we've dangled to entice Egyptian acquiescence to an unpopular treaty.

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

This week a radical Islamist government was voted into power in Egypt (the US BTW spent 200M spreading democracy in Egypt. The fact that Egypt is a disaster doesn't speak well for his support for the "Arab Spring".
Now follow, Time editorially supports Obama, they aren't going to run a cover that makes his foreign policy look bad, they want him reelected.
Right now the Muslim Brotherhood is speaking in moderate terms. It is not an especially radical group in Egypt, though it has had extremist individuals just like the Republican and Democratic Parties here. It has also modernized its beliefs and seems to be interesting governing.
The Republicans are doing all they can to destroy the economy and block even the payroll tax cuts in the hope that that will defeat Obama. By painting the results in Egypt in the most pessimistic way, you are hoping that Obama's overall superb foreign policy will fail. After all, let's face it, it's under Obama that bin Laden and Qadaffi fell, that we're getting out of Iraq, and that tensions with NK have calmed. Clearly, Obama has accomplished far more to protect America in 3 years than the Republicans accomplished in the previous 8 years. But, we can always hope that Egypt becomes an enemy. Keep your fingers crossed!

Well that's a relief.

I guess that tells us where things are headed when the MB are the moderates.

We'll see if they actually do any "governing".

I'm with you on that one. A lot of money on the sidelines.

History will tell. Was Egypt an ally before? I think they were the equivalent of someone to whom you pay protection money.

Sounds like what Castro and the Ayatollahs in Iran said when they came to power.

Obama doesn't need any help destroying the economy, it seems to be the only thing he can do well. The fact he never had a job is showing up now.
HE is just playing class warfare to deflect from his record of failure with the economy.

Yawn, Al Queda was on the ropes when Obama was sworn in.
I am not being pessimistic I am being realistic about what is happening. IMO you are seeing thing through rose colored glases hoping it will help Obama get reelected.
