Default The war against democracy

Pretty interesting that there are quite a few incidents by right wing extremists to thwart the will of the people. I think in some quarters that's called fascism.

Scott Walker Recall Campaign Gets Ugly As Allegations Fly

On Sunday, a man was arrested on allegations that he defaced recall petitions.

"The suspect stood in line to sign a petition and when given the petition clipboard, he scribbled out some names on the actual form, and the recall worker took the clipboard back, and he left the scene without any incident," West Bend, Wis. police Sgt. Matt Rohlinger told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Police arrested another woman from Thorp, Wis. after she reportedly grabbed a sign from recall volunteers, tore it up, threw it on the ground and then drove away. Officers charged her with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

...

Just one day after Democrats began gathering signatures, Caledonia Patch reported on at least three individuals who were collecting signatures to recall Walker but had no intention of turning in the petitions to be counted. ...

Although the individuals eventually said they would turn in the petitions, there were online rumors of a larger effort to sabotage the petition-gathering known as "Operation Burn Notice." Police were also looking for a man who allegedly ripped up petitions.

...

A student from Edgewood College in Wisconsin also reportedly ripped up a petition on his campus, after which he tweeted a confessional message to Walker: "Today I ripped up a petition form to recall you."

Yeah trying to recall a politician who did what he said he would do is pretty undemocratic. You think they would try to win the next election.

No, I wouldn't. Recall is part of the law in Wisconsin. I think they would abide by the law. And my guess is that you had no problems with the recall of Gray Davis, so not only are you now defending thugs and lawbreakers, it would appear you'll have to parse this issue quite finely to avoid being hypocritical.

Yeah, when you rip up signed petition, make threatening phone calls, plot to destroy petitions, you are waging war on the democratic process.

For the right only certain laws that benefit them are the right laws, all the rest that they cannot manipulate become unconstitutional or some other such nonsense.

The governorship of Wisconsin is not "democracy". It's a tempest in a teapot. You are missing the larger threats. You're afraid of those morons (who have already been arrested or about to be)? Really? What power do they have?

You are correct in a sense that people on both sides of this are playing for keeps:

Gov. Walker: Recall Proponents 'Cross the Line'
Quote:
Embattled Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says some who are backing his recall “cross the line” by harassing his family and neighbors and targeting his children’s friends on Facebook for rebuke. The chief executive of the Badger State also told Fox News’ Greta Can Susteren Monday much of the vehement opposition to a budget-trimming law he signed earlier this year, which restricts public unions, comes from outside Wisconsin.

“That’s what happens when you see so much influence coming in from outside of Wisconsin — that’s not the way we do it in Wisconsin — we don’t attack people because it’s a difference of opinion,” Walker said. “People came out to my home and attacked — not attacked but harassed not only my family, but my neighbors. They have been [singling out] folks on my kids’ Facebook site and they have said outrageous things about my family again today.

Issuing death threats to the governor is fine and threatening children is fine as long as it is leftist unions doing the threatening.

That is democracy in action for the left.

Using the term "war" on any situation other than a WAR is silly, IMO. It's like the word "revolution".

War on Drugs
War on Terror
War on Cancer
Class War
War on Poverty
and my favorite: "War on Christmas"

No wonder we are so desensitized and passive about going to actual WARS where we tear human bodies apart and destroy cities. No problem. Just another war.

So, first you attack people who are participating in the democratic process.

Then you go for the "2 wrongs make a right" angle.

You can't simply admit wrongdoing if it's by a pubbie, huh? Great to see a "mod" trying to hijack a thread because it puts his buddies in a negative light.
