That stuff happens. Too bad it reflects badly on an entire police force.

Anyway, he immediately got behind me, pulled me over and got out. He was very short for a statie (your guy?) and the first thing he said to me was "you disrespected my vehicle"
I replied (honestly) by saying "Is there a law against that?"
Long story long is that I appealed the ticket and the clerk magistrate laughed and said "are we now giving tickets for going 66 mph?....DISMISSED!"
Of course the officer never showed up....
Hahaha gotta love em. My encounter was somewhat similar conversation wise. I pull over. Short stuff with a badge gets out of his car. Tilts his fancy hat down, puffs the chest and walks to my window.
Statie: "what are you supposed to have ready for me when I come to your car?"
Me: "I assume you mean my license/reg, but I wanted to wait for you to come to the window before I went rummaging through my glove box"
Statie: "What are you coming from a f**cking bank robbery? Its 8am, I can see fine into your car."
With that I shut up, as I knew no amount of mature, respectful discussion would pull Capt. America off his power trip. His douchbaggery was also the determining factor that ensured I would fight the ticket.
Long story short fought it in Stoughton. clerk magistrate asked me where I was going, I said work. He asked if I go to work everyday. I said yes. He said have a good day and through it out.

Man, it's worth it to fight them. Glad you beat yours...sounds like he was a primo db. Also good that you had the sense to stop talking. Respect works with most of them. I got pulled over years ago when I was laid off. I told a statie I couldn't afford a ticket and he let me go.
I haven't been pulled over in a few years, but I got 3 tickets dismissed over a 10 year period. I actually paid for a tutorial on how to beat them. One I deserved, so I paid it

yeah, he's the kind of cop that I would have had an issue with. You're smart not go reaching for things when pulled over -- hands on the wheel, window down a bit, engine off, tell the cop everything you're doing.
If the cop had said that to me, I would have started talking a lot about guns and police being shot on traffic stops...
Re: No charges against SWAT team that killed American hero
Okay, a couple things, without "taking sides" -
- I don't know whether he understood there was a SWAT team at the door. They seem hard to misidentify, and I don't think they "stealth" them.
- If he understood that: really? You have a wife and kid depending on you, and you take the rifle to the door to confront a SWAT team? That's not good.
- Was he indentified to the SWAT team as armed/dangerous? Was it for good reason?
- How the hell are we all okay with the (admittedly) non-lethal police brutality tactics we see deployed against peaceful demonstrators and motorists, on the excuse that they "could be" violent, or just that they're not doing what a cop says... but we're pissed when they shoot a guy that really appears to present a threat?
- On the other side, yes, like RW says... why is it okay that cops can come to your door with apparent orders to shoot to kill? You would assume he's known to be armed/dangerous, they had orders to shoot to kill... or else yes, these guys royally effed up.
Anyhoo, not enough time to dive way into this one, I have to get my buttocks out the door & get some work done.
Just seems like one of those "more info needed" stories. I don't like guys getting shot for no apparent reason... but there are a lot of signs here that there may in fact be reasons.

I agree with your theory.
I remember my economics teacher in HS dsicussing this. It was our first class of the year, and he went right into pointing out the economics of finding a cure, versus treating an illness. I've never forgotten that class and the point made. Some points made were inventing a lifetime light bulb, or a tire that never wore out.

I love that. I despise any abuse of authority. It pisses me off to no extent. What sucks with DB's like that guy, is that you have to appeal a ticket, miss a day of work, and now pay $25 just for the right to appeal. It's utter BS.

I had a cop rush up to my window with his hand on his side arm, telling me to freeze. After me and my buddies nearly **** our pants, he explained to us that reaching for the glove box is a no no until the cop gets to the car. He said sometimes people reaching for their glove box are reaching for a weapon. Mind you, I didn't grow up in the nicest of cities, so I could see his point. I was probably 18-19 at the time. Since then I've always waited with both hands on the steering wheel.

I don't think that he knew there was a SWAT team outside. That seemed pretty clear from his wife's statements. Members of their extended family who live in the area were home invaded not too long ago, and they thought the same was happening to them.
Who's ok with police brutality? I'm not sure many people are. I think it's less egregious, or less of a big deal, when a protester is given advance warning to disperse, or else X, and is then maced or shot with a water cannon. Last I checked those people at least had the choice to leave, or time to decide, nevermind that whatever it was they were going to suffer, wasn't going to render them dead for the most part. I think people are generally opposed to police brutality, or their abusing power. However, I think mace in the face is a tad more acceptable than having your door kicked in, and your body sprayed with 70+ bullets. Wouldn't you?
I guess a question I have is why cops, or swat teams, have orders of shoot to kill in situations like this. Aren't we innocent until proven guilty? Actions like these seem to kick the legal process, or our constitutional rights of due process, squarely in the nuts. The cops, by being given such an order, or allowed to perform such an action, are annointing themselves judge, jury, and executioner. I find that incredibly unacceptable. Were they chasing down a known killer, that'd be one thing, but they were serving a warrant, or running a raid for a guy that maybe had a tossed arrest over pot. That's insane.
