The Future of the Obama Coalition

By THOMAS B. EDSALL

For decades, Democrats have suffered continuous and increasingly severe losses among white voters. But preparations by Democratic operatives for the 2012 election make it clear for the first time that the party will explicitly abandon the white working class.

All pretense of trying to win a majority of the white working class has been effectively jettisoned in favor of cementing a center-left coalition made up, on the one hand, of voters who have gotten ahead on the basis of educational attainment — professors, artists, designers, editors, human resources managers, lawyers, librarians, social workers, teachers and therapists — and a second, substantial constituency of lower-income voters who are disproportionately African-American and Hispanic.

I think the writer of the article missed an important democrat constituency which has a significant percentage of white people: union workers. I have known an awful lot of guys who were so socially conservative it would make even me uncomfortable who went out and voted a straight line democrat ticket because they were union guys.

However it's certainly true that the democrats do nothing but spit in the faces of the average middle to upper class non-union employed white person.

OT: Outside of the Union part of your post, that describes my paternal grandmother to a T. Off the right edge as it pertains to social issues, but has never and will never vote for any Republican.

When I press her with the "but grandma, you are so conservative socially, how can you vote D?" her only reply is "Only rich people are Republican".

Hahaha funny how the human mind works...

I was one of them "Teamsters Union" when the far left wing rotten bastards took over I left, I was once a democrat for many years then when the likes of George McGovern, Pelosi and Maxine Waters came along I couldn't take it, I am nothing now.

Since white, working class citizens are the most important voting group (based upon size), it would seem foolish to ignore them.
