This incident occurred a couple weeks ago, but I believe he went to
court yesterday, so that is why it is in the news today.

SWAMPSCOTT (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Swampscott man charged with punching a suspected thief outside his home told FOX 25 it was only self defense.
Anthony McKay of Cherry St. said he observed 28-year-old Christian Johnson of Lynn trying to steal tools from the back of his truck.
I would love to be on this jury.....

According to the police report obtained by FOX 25, "Mr. McKay believed that Mr. Johnson was reaching for a weapon on him and ended up punching the male party in the face."
The blow knocked Johnson down and broke his jaw. Due to the severity of Johnson's injuries, police charged McKay with assault and battery.
Swampscott Police reported finding a knife, police style baton, and suspected heroin on Johnson.
Lynnfield based criminal defense attorney Richard Chambers has agreed to represent McKay pro-bono
I welcome feedback from the Left on this case......

Unless Fox News is leaving out some details (which is possible), it obviously is a case of self defense. Not only that Johnson should be charged with possession of a class A substance.

I am sure they would have wanted him to report the incident, but take no action.
I for one would have supported McQueary if he used force to hurt Sandusky when he caught him in the shower raping a 10 year old boy.
I consider McQueary a total coward for his actions .....
Sounds like Paterno ran a cult-like organization, which was effective for football, but not for decency. There are some studies showing how obedience to authority can lead to great harm. Military atrocities around the world are the most common examples, but also there have been famous studies using college-age adults. McQueary will have to live with his lack of action for the rest of his life, but I believe the problem was with the way Paterno ran things. That said, it would be easier to understand McQueary's lack of action if he was 18 or so, but he was 28, which is a old for not being able to think independently. Regardless, I have no sympathy for McQueary.
Cup of Joe, the kind of liberals who might oppose you in this thread are about as common as the kind of conservatives who might oppose you in this thread.

Why muddy these waters with the well discussed Penn State stuff....
I suspect that these charges will be thrown out, and the police probably had to do something, due to the injuries.. it will not go to a jury trial.
BTW the perp in this case is being held without bail.
Christian P. Johnson, 30, of 162 Union St., Lynn, pleaded innocent Thursday in Lynn District Court to charges of carrying a dangerous weapon (police baton), possessing a class A substance (heroin), attempting to commit a crime, disorderly conduct and possessing a knife over 2.5 inches
Johnson was ordered held without bail because he was already out on bail for an arrest in April. In April, Johnson was reportedly found passed out on a sidewalk in Lynn while in possession of a class C substance. He was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in that incident.

Re: Swampscott man charged with assault after hitting alleged robber
You can't just pummel someone else because they stole from you, but one punch is one punch. I don't care what the law says, he isn't guilty to me. That being said, I don't think its right to assume the cops feel as though the puncher is guilty. Its possible that they've decided that the injury was so severe that the decision to exonerate the guy should be kicked upstairs.

It is nice to see that we can find common ground every now and then.
